Pt. Pleasant runs past Gallipolis, 76-29
Unbeaten Pt. Pleasant High School scored early and often Friday to down host Gallipolis 76-29 on a damp night during Gallipolis’ 14th annual athletic hall of fame game.
It was the Big Blacks 28th straight regular season win and fifth in a row during the 2015 campaign. Gallipolis dropped to 0-5 on the year.
Pt. Pleasant will tackle Parkersburg South next Friday. GAHS will host former SEOAL rival Athens in a non-league outing at 7:30 p.m. It will be the Blue Devils annual homecoming game. Athens is 2-3 on the year.
This is the B ig Blacks “Golden Era” of football. PPHS was ranked 5th in the Triple A West Virginia ratings last week and is considered to a main threat to capture the 2015 AAA state championship.
Friday’s game was the 81st between the two schools. GAHS still holds an upper hand in all games played with 40 wins, 36 losses and five ties.
GAHS Athletic Director Rich Corvin said prior to the game Gallipolis will play at Point next year in the third game of the 2016 season, The contest was just made possible on Friday.
The 76 points scored by PPHS were the most ever scored against the Blue Devils. Last year, the Big Blacks handed GAHS a 58-3 setback.
Friday, PPHS led 28-6 after one period, 49-21 at halftime and 69-21 going into the final period.
Both coaches flooded the field with subs in the final period.
Pt. Pleasant totaled 377 yards offense in 38 plays. GAHS totaled 304 yards in 52 plays.
Pt. Pleasant racked up 14 first downs to Gallia’s 13.
Marshall bound Cody Mitchell rushed for 171 yards in 13 trips (13.2 average) and scored three touchdowns for PPHS..
Junior Grant Safford rushed for 163 yards in 13 trips (12.5) and scored two TDs. Garrett Litchfield had one reception for 31 yards and a touchdown..
Kole Carter led GAHS runners with 46 yards rushing in 15 trips (3.1
For GAHS, Devin Henry had four receptions for 71 yards and a TD. Carter had one reception for 63 yards, Clay Plymale one reception for 53 yards and a touchdown, Matt Bailey seven receptions for 50 yards and two TDs.
Devin Henry returned four kickoffs for 78 yards (19.5) for GAHS. Cody Mitchell returned three punts for 135 yards and two touchdowns for PPHS.
Ty Howell punted six times for 195 yards for GAHS (32.5).
Pt. Pleasant was penalized seven times for 75 yards, GAHS was penalized four times for 35 yards.
Defensively for GAHS, Eric Ward had four solos and two assists. Justin Reynolds had four solos and one assist and Carter five solos and one assist.
During halftime ceremonies, Chad Barnes, Mark Berkich, Robby Skidmore, Teresa Combs and Mike Wood were inducted into Gallipolis’ 14th athletic hall of fdame.

but glad to see what the offense can do when you get a little creative with it and mix in some diff athletes into the equation

goes to show it wasnt lack of talent as it is still there although not what it once had the success will come and maybe a win or two time will tell

doesnt get any easier this week vs athens but i think offense can have success vs a down athens defense

Point> Athens .....by a lot
still a tough game this week, but much easier than point
