Darren Crabtree is in his 30th season coaching the Indians. He is 222-97 (69.6%) and 95-43 in the SOC (68.8%).

We have 14 SOC titles. Darren has 11 of those. We have 10 playoff appearances with 11 wins and those are all with Coach Crabtree.

Valley's worst record against an opponent with multiple games is Wheelersburg. We are 5-37 all time.

Next on that list would be West at 12-36.

Valley has never played a team more than twice without a win.

Valley's best records are against Piketon (32-9-1), Northwest (41-14), and Oak Hill (14-5).

Most wins without a loss are Huntington (12-0) and St Joe (9-0).
That’s pretty impressive! Coach Crabtree imho is one of the best

Portsmouth's all time record is not listed on the OHSAA website, but I believe the Trojans have a record of about 550-400 all time. The Trojans won the 1953 Greater Ohio League going undefeated.

Portsmouth lost to Middletown 98-14 at Spartan Stadium in 1964, then returned the favor in 1966, beating the Middies at Spartan 36-20. Portsmouth lost at Upper Arlington 79-12 in the early 70's. One of the most memorable wins came in 2000, when the Trojans beat Dayton Chaminade-Julienne 31-24 at Hillsboro in the D3 regional final.

One of the few winless seasons in PHS history was in 1978, with the Trojans going 0-10. One of the losses was 21-0 at Steubenville. Paul Mentis was the coach, and he was there for only 1 year. That year was interesting in that in the 1978-1979 basketball season, the Trojans went 21-0 before they lost to Ironton in the district final at the Convo.

I have Portsmouth unnoficially at 591-459-38.
I got that from records of the old site I had saved plus Joe eitel so this stuff is 3rd hand at best. I threw out a few recorded games against Colleges, etc back in the early 1900s. I'll try to post the individual team records tonite when I have more time.

That record for Jackson is through 2015. The OHSAA website is incorrect.

Jackson is now 631-414-48 as of right now, as I mentioned above.

Ok thanks ironman...yep i got that info off the ohsaa website.

If there is a record for most wins with the fewest league titles we are probably near the top, I'm not sure there has been one in my lifetime. As Dave pointed out we won the GOL in 1954 and given our abysmal record against Lima and Mansfield I doubt that happened very many times. Most of PHS history has been either independent or leagues we were in for basketball reasons that normally left our football team overmatched on a weekly basis, if not for our sucess in the leather helmet days our penchant for overscheduling would probably have us at a sub .500 all time record.

portsmouth98: Thanks for the great info on Trojan football. I had the 1954 team GOL champions as undefeated, and I will edit my post to change it to 1953. Your effort on keeping some Portsmouth football records in the active file is greatly appreciated. As far as I know, the 1953 Trojans were the only Portsmouth team to win the GOL, and the league was in operation for almost 30 years until its demise in the mid 70's. It was more known for its basketball prowess, with 11 state titles between 1944-1961, but was very tough in football also.

Portsmouth's 591 wins is very respectable considering the program went 30-70 from 2008-2017. I think our overall record is even more impressive when you consider the competition that the Trojans played when PHS was a bigger school.

I know it can be difficult and time consuming to find good info, because I have encountered this many times on www.trojanhoops.org.

I found some info saying we were in the Tri State Conference in the late 70's and the OKAC in the late 80s but the schedules I had from the old web site don't match up with league membership very well. There were several years that we only played 2 or 3 teams listed as being in these conferences. Were these basketball only conferences possibly ?

portsmouth98: The Tri-State Conference was a short lived conference, existing for only for a few years. The OKAC was in existence from 1986--1993, and I know in basketball Portsmouth won the title every year except 1986 and 1992. Boyd County won both the 1986 and 1993 titles, with Ashland winning in 1992. I don't know about football results, but I do remember going to Boyd County, Ashland, Russell, and Greenup County for OKAC football games. I don't remember going to Tri-State football games at Barboursville or Huntington East. I do remember going to Marshall's old football stadium for a game, but I can't remember who we played.

Makes sense Dave, it seemed we had a more steady schedule in the OKAC , I had just looked at a Wikipedia page and it had us in the OKAC till 94 but I didn't see any results for Russell in those years.

portsmouth98: I looked up the OKAC history on www.trojanhoops.org.,and Portsmouth was in the league from 1986--1993. I edited my post above to include the correct years. Sometimes my memory slips a little bit, thankfully trojanhoops had the correct info. Wikipedia is correct in their info about the Trojans being in the OKAC through 1993.

That would play out like this:
1986 : 4-6 , 2-3 OKAC
1987 : 4-6 , 2-3 OKAC
1988 : 7-4 , 4-1 OKAC
1989 : 6-4 , 2-3 OKAC
1990 : 7-3 , 2-3 OKAC last Russel game
1991 : 9-2 , 3-1 OKAC last Boyd County game
1992 : 8-2 , 2-1 OKAC last Greenup County game
1993 : 4-6, 1-1 OKAC
