Week 7 Valley (4-2) at Waverly (5-0)

Post by smurray »

Week 7 already.
Valley has played 6 and enters this game at 4-2, wins over Northwest and Northwest, 1-4 Eastern and 1-5 Oak Hill. Their two losses have been to 5-1 Portsmouth and 6-0 Piketon.
So, they have played two really good teams and 3 not very good.
Waverly has played 5 and enters this game at 5-0, wins over Miami Trace (4-2 D3), Johnstown (0-5), Unioto (2-4) , Portsmouth (5-1) and Ports West (3-3).

It’s no secret the Tigers have struggled as of late, pulling out a 2 point conversion win over Portsmouth last week and taking a pic 6 in the 4th last night to pull away from West. Waverly was without one of their best (if not the best) linemen (offense and defense) last night and desperately need to get him back. Tigers were without a RB last night and had to switch players around to fill that spot (Stulley from his receiver spot, Crabtree from his TE spot, & Barnett - committee of three). No idea what the status of Hurd and Smith will be for this one. Q. Hurd, Painter and Brushart were also not available last night and don’t know their status for this one. Freshman Braylon Robertson stepped up big in his expanded roll last night.

Tigers need to come out and play a first half like they have been playing the second half of games.
Def. have some things that need fixed before heading to Wheelersburg in two weeks and into the playoffs.

Valley just not enough speed to keep up in this one. Waverly with a running clock in this one. Need to take the opportunity to rest some players in preparation for next week.

Valley is capable of extending Waverly into the fourth quarter or worse if the Tigers are caught looking ahead to Da Burg. Waverly appears to be a fine tuned race engine that has dropped a cylinder. Tigers need to concentrate on fundamentals this week. If that is the focus, Waverly should win 31 -7.

Waverly with a running clock by late 3rd.

And I somehow got them the following week +14 for a C note

Just for history's sake, I think Waverly has only won one game at Wheelersburg since 1968, that being a 50-21 victory in 2001. Of course 2021 may be different.

That is a little misleading. Waverly had two undefeated teams in 1969 and 1970 and other good teams in several years when Waverly and Wheelersburg did not play. But this week is Waverly vs. Valley and that is all that matters.

Waverly not trending in the right direction, focusing on health for week 8. Take the points

Should be a good game for the first 2 and half quarters.injuries, and #'s plaguing Valley right now. However, if Waverly overlooks Valley expect a dogfight to the end. Valley will play hard no matter what. What Valley accomplishes with #'s and strength of schedule is impressive.

They lost a linebacker/WR a few weeks ago, and I saw one of their linemen go down early vs. Oak Hill. They've played a handful of freshmen recently too. It looked like Valley had about 20-23 kids dressed last week and maybe played 14-15 of them until the game was in control.
