Re: WK7 Logan - Columbus St. Charles
A win over St. Charles isn't going to be enough to finish in the top 16 at the end of the year. More or less, what needs to happen is they need to beat 1) St. Charles and either Meigs or Zanesville ; or 2) Ft. Frye.

Re: WK7 Logan - Columbus St. Charles
Early this year I IDed Warren, Athens, St. Chucks and Meigs as potential wins. St. Chucks is bad so Logan has a good shot at another win.
As for playoffs they will be at around 16 if they beat St. Chucks and Meigs . It’s doable but other teams will have a shot if they keep winning. Logan has no business being in the playoffs however.

I’ll pick Logan, but think it will be a close game. They are usually very disciplined.
Let’s call it Logan, 21-14.

Going to be tough for Logan if Traten Poling is out (as I expect). He has been Logan' s most consistent performer - especially on offense.

Ouch ! Didn’t know Poling may not play. That will make it tougher for Logan to win.
To some who may not know, St. Chucks is a college prep school. You only get admitted after taking a rigorous academic test. Only high test scores got you admitted. This eliminates many better jocks who end up at one of the traditional Catholic schools like Hartley or DeSales. Good kids but not the studs normally found at a Watterson or Ready.
Played St. Chucks twice when coaching at Rosecrans even though there was a huge size difference in the schools with Rosecrans being maybe one third the size of St. Chucks. Won both games but they were close. Chucks turned us down on renewing the game contracts.lol

Re: WK7 Logan - Columbus St. Charles
Chucks actually doesn’t do the admissions test anymore, although you have to take Algebra 1 as a freshman — they don’t offer pre-Algebra. What they do now, instead, is front-load the first semester of freshman year with really hard teachers and loads of homework. Latin is mandatory for freshmen and sophomores. If a kid is below a certain grade threshold as measured across all classes, as well as specific to a couple (think science and math are there), they are told in November to pack their bags.Paladin wrote: ↑Tue Sep 28, 2021 4:27 pm Ouch ! SC also is the only Diocesan school that doesn’t accept transfers after sophomore year, unless you physically moved from outside a 50-mile radius of the school into that proximity of attendance.

Re: WK7 Logan - Columbus St. Charles
Wow ! Didn’t know they dropped the test. Lots of parents used to howl about that. The Latin requirement doesn’t make sense either. Useless. Was told they have gone to a more STEM curriculum matching todays jobs for tomorrow. The Diocese still have restrictions on what school you can go to depending on the parish you attend ? I know there was a big stink about some school stealing players from other schools territory.formerfcfan wrote: ↑Tue Sep 28, 2021 4:42 pmChucks actually doesn’t do the admissions test anymore, although you have to take Algebra 1 as a freshman — they don’t offer pre-Algebra. Four years of language; two years of Latin. I agree that it is pointless.Paladin wrote: ↑Tue Sep 28, 2021 5:05 pmWow ! Didn’t know they dropped the test. Lots of parents used to howl about that. Within Franklin County, there are still the parish zones. The controversy was DeSales and Hartley bickering about who had the rightful claim to St. Matthew(‘s) of Gahanna. Diocese said it’s up to the parents.
The Diocese system of attendance zones beyond Columbus is county assignment. Where this kept getting eschewed was Fairfield County. Until February 2021, Fisher was the only high Diocesan coeducational school students in Fairfield County was assigned to attend per the published public policy by the DoC. However, students west of Lancaster that were attending parish in Canal/Lithopolis and Pickerington (both of which are in Fairfield Co) were all going to Hartley. We never knew the real number of kids in that area going to BH instead of FC because the Diocese — although they knew it was happening — never made BH and the parishes disclose it to FC. Didn’t have an opportunity to find out the actual market of families looking for Catholic high school, rendering us obsolete there. So for us it wasn’t a “fair play” deal that the Diocese kept championing to be the case.
It’s since been changed, in writing, after the Diocese kept hearing direct/indirect passive-aggressive complaints from folks like me that the “Seton Parish/Hartley ‘rule’” was published.

That’s the Diocese of Columbus I remember. Politics everywhere and renderings that enriched some at others expense. Enrollment continues to drop at parochial schools and besides expensive tuition, it’s the politics that turn many off.
I’m one of the few here that played against old St. Mary’s h.s. In Lancaster. Logan played them every year in MBB. But FB, no.

Re: WK7 Logan - Columbus St. Charles
Great post on the inner-workings of the Diocese of Columbus. Interesting stuff. Living in Dublin now I'm slowly learning.
Have some friends who send their kids to St. C's. Based on their experience it seems like Latin and other Fresh/Soph front loading are to weed out the kids who don't want to put in the work.
Hard for me to imagine paying the property in Dublin or Powell and also paying tuition. I understand the merits of a parochial education - I'd just have a hard time justifying living in one of the higher prices school districts.
Dublin kids go to Watterson. But we have a couple of St. C kids in the neighborhood too. That's a heck of a morning commute.

Re: WK7 Logan - Columbus St. Charles
Poling took a nasty helmet-to-knee shot late in the first half on Friday. On Friday it was thought he was probably done for the season - but now hearing it might not be a season ending injury. More MCL than ACL. Definitely out for Friday against St. C.
