You are absolutely wrong:avalanche wrote: Mon Feb 24, 2025 4:05 pmI am aware, and it's a youth rec league. Congrats, you're both again inaccurate. It's neither travel or school affiliated outside of NAME only. The Wheelersburg youth All-Star basketball team in neither funded by the school or actually a part of the school athletic programs. As you can see, these are rec leagues: 2nd-12th grade teamsRBH23 wrote: Mon Feb 24, 2025 1:52 pmThe poster don’t want to understand, and they said before they are in Cincinnati. Funny if they do live in Cincinnati, then how do they not know about the Cincinnati Premier League!!avalanche wrote: Mon Feb 24, 2025 11:46 am
You have no clue what you are talking about!
I call it a “travel team” because they play other schools in their conference. The technical name of this school league is <Name of School> Youth Basketball Competitive League which now plays in the Cincinnati Premier League; played in the GWOC when I coached.
In the school district I live, they start these teams in 3rd grade where each grade has three teams (use to be A, B, and C teams).
Tryouts are held and 7-10 kids picked for each team based on skill, etc. Being a big school, most kids obviously don’t make a team, and the school has a different league for them similar to the leagues back in my day.
Now do you understand? I can keep trying to explain it to you, but you need to put your brain to use and at least attempt to understand.![]()
That’s funny right there!!
Rec, High-Rec, Athletic
10 game rec/high-rec schedules
20 game rec option (3rd-6th)
20 game athletic schedules
Rec teams grouped by location
Athletic A/B/C boys divisions
Athletic A/B girls divisions
League schedules all games
League manages/assigns refs
Games at member gyms
Preseason Shootout
Post-season Tournament
- First, this has nothing to do with Burg. I don’t even live in Burg.
- Second, the teams are partially funded by the school districts. There was a pay to play element to it to help cover costs.
- Third, games were played at the school gyms, both home and away. Only for special tournaments did we play at Sports Court or another 3rd party rec center.
- Fourth, practices were also held in the school gyms. Only exception was when all gyms were full. Then the school would rent out gyms in local churches for practices.
- Fifth, uniforms had school name, logos, etc. Again, all to represent the school.
- Sixth, all coaches had to go through background checks through the school in order to coach.
- Seventh, this system is the same for the school’s football program as well.
- Eight, you have to actually attend the school to play for said school.
- Ninth, these are the sports leagues these kids at these schools play. There are no other school affiliated leagues for these age brackets.
- Tenth, tryouts were held at the school’s gym. Not at a 3rd party gym, not the YMCA, but at the tax payer funded SCHOOL gyms.
So you would be right if:
- The schools did not financially support these teams.
- The schools did not provide the gyms/football fields.
- School colors and logos were not used to represent the teams.
- Fees were not paid through the school.
- Admin of background checks did not occur through the school.
- Schools offered other options outside of these teams.

I am not sure when this well end, all started over a compliment to Wheelerburg, but here goes.
1. They might have been, but they're not anymore. I am very aware of the league and my daughters actually played in them. Yes, you play in your school district, but it's no longer funded through a school. Even if it were, it's still a recreational program. It's rec league.
2. Yes, youth league games all over SEO who aren't funded by districts are played in gyms and on fields in their district. This doesn't support your point.
3. Yes, practices are still held in school gyms, no different than youth leagues in SEO.
4. Again, no different than SEO.
5. Not anymore, we had kids from other cities on our team.
This is silly. You were a youth rec coach. Flexing like you were some big bad travel coach is hilarious now Mr. Machismo. You coached youth league. Every volunteer coach has to be background checks. The Fee's are no longer paid through the school. May have been a thing years ago, not anymore.
Anyways, cool story bro, you coached your kids youth league team.

That’s what I said from the first text! The league is sponsored by and affiliated with the school. Never claimed I coached the Lakers. We called it travel ball simply because it was external to the rec, non-selective school league.
As for coaching as a career, never gave it any thought. High school coaches make squat as do most college coaches. Better chance of winning the lottery than making serious money coaching.
You do not seem to be the sharpest knife, probably have accomplished very little in life (sorry about that). But now I get why you don’t share where you went to school: don’t want to embarrass your hometown.
