Re: Notre dame coach resigns
Care to elaborate if possible for those of us who are uninformed? maybe what that plan is? One would think they would promote from within at least on an interim basis right? Seems like more and more coaches are resigning super close to the season. Salineville Southern just had their coach resign too if im not mistaken.dirt_cinders wrote: Thu Jul 17, 2025 1:57 pm Tough situation but they have a plan going forward.
Move forward.

Surprised he made it this long. Hasn't he done this before at other stops?

That’s what happens when you stand behind a clown head coach: you get burned in the end, ND.

ND will probably have to go with a current staff member this late in the game. I know Shannon is currently on staff and was a coordinator at Northwest previously, so one would think he would be a possibility.
As for Davis, he quit on another team a few years back right before the season started, so ND knew what they were getting into when they hired him. Talking to people close to the situation, a lot of his antics won't be missed. Just a bad situation for the ND players.*

They’re going with the AD to run this season.art_vandelay wrote: Thu Jul 17, 2025 5:37 pm ND will probably have to go with a current staff member this late in the game. I know Shannon is currently on staff and was a coordinator at Northwest previously, so one would think he would be a possibility.

About all they could do at this point. Really hope ND can put together a decent season, especially for the seniors.formerfcfan wrote: Thu Jul 17, 2025 5:46 pmThey’re going with the AD to run this season.art_vandelay wrote: Thu Jul 17, 2025 5:37 pm ND will probably have to go with a current staff member this late in the game. Will also be interesting to see if the coaching position gets any more interest in the offseason this time around.*

Was DM'd by someone this afternoon concerning the news. Very sad to hear.
Management issues always affects the players for the rest of the season. To depart right before the season starts, it hurts the kids' and the school's morale. I recall something similar happened 20 odd years ago to this same program. I hope for the best for the program and its players. They need it.

As for the bolded: it probably won’t happen. Ashley’s railroading was a crapshow, toxic parents showed their butts in year one of BD and school leadership (along with their fans on here) stood behind him the entire distance.
ND is very attractive for external candidates in girls’ sports and basketball/baseball. Football, on the other hand… it’s not going to happen.
Re: Notre dame coach resigns
How many kids does ND have out this year? I wanna say last year there were only about 20 +/- 2.

ND usually goes in house with majority positions unless it’s football it seems. They may post an opening but usually keep it in house

What a joke of a coach. Just look at his track record, and you can see what he was about. I'm sure his "NFL" status will continue to carry him around until he finds an already successful program that he can ride the coattails of and then jump ship when he runs it into the ground.
Notre Dame getting rid of Ashley was a bit ridiculous, and now I'm sure he's just laughing at their stupidity. However, like any other school, money/last names speak loudly, and now the parents who helped Ashley pack his belongings can enjoy what they have "fixed".
Bob Ashley may not be THE guy, but he put in his time and did that school the best anyone could ask for.

You’re absolutely correct, ND for football is in a world of trouble. Was told the other day they weren’t going to have enough kids to have a junior high team this season and barely had enough last year. I thought the coach could stay for 1 more year but dang dumping the team just weeks from the 1st scrimmage. Guy was a tool anywaysformerfcfan wrote: Thu Jul 17, 2025 6:26 pmAgreed on the former.art_vandelay wrote: Thu Jul 17, 2025 5:55 pm About all they could do at this point.
