Formed in the spring of 1925, original members of the SEOAL were Logan, Athens, Gallia Academy, Ironton, Jackson, Nelsonville, Portsmouth and Wellston. Pomeroy joined a few months later but did not play football during the inaugural 1925 season.
It would die 92 years later in June 2017.
SEOAL would be celebrating its 100th anniversary this year if it still existed

Community and school district demographics change over time as does their commonality. Perhaps it is better to celebrate that the SEOAL lasted so long rather than mourn its death.
Also this question needs asked. Given playoff success is now the gold standard of an athletic program's prowess, are conferences obsolete other than a scheduling tool? Is Ohio going to district play and scheduling inevitable ?

The SEOAL in its final five years managed to make the scheduling convenience obsolete when it stubbornly pushed for sports like tennis to be treated as conference sports. Logan to Portsmouth, Portsmouth to Logan every year to play something that could not accrue any revenue to offset travel costs.Zahns Corner wrote: Thu Jul 31, 2025 7:25 am Given playoff success is now the gold standard of an athletic program's prowess, are conferences obsolete other than a scheduling tool? Additionally, the OHSAA’s incessant hunger for revenue displayed by their additional teams in the playoffs has minimized the need for conferences. I believe that if they had it their way every team would get in so they could obtain more revenue. I’m sure they lament the days of vacations, I mean meetings, in Hawaii LOL.formerfcfan wrote: Thu Jul 31, 2025 9:37 amThe SEOAL in its final five years managed to make the scheduling convenience obsolete when it stubbornly pushed for sports like tennis to be treated as conference sports.
