Why is everyone so high on Athens? They lost their only weapon from last year. Sure they should always be a top team - but .......

Honestly two outright wins for NY and one share in a league where they are what 3 divisions smaller than Athens over a 7-8 year period is pretty dang respectable.

Sat next to a guy in a work-related conference last week from NY, and he is pretty certain they are going to invert their 1-9 record from last year. Best of luck to them playing in against an average of 2 divisions bigger than them during league games. Valley down in my neck of the woods probably averages playing a division up, but for NY to play a couple D3's a D4 and some D5's is a pretty big difference actually.

Hope they right the ship.

NY has great community support in football. How D5-D7 is now. NY should always make the playoffs in D5.

NY is actually the size of valley. NY played a top 10 SOS last year. Burg and Valley were around 50th

Yes I know but Valley isn't playing two D3 schools in their league every year, but NY does.

And haven't they played D2 Logan most years?

I am not sure if a lot of people understand how big of deal that is lol. Congrats to NY for doing that, not to many schools play up, they play up every week.

Depth and experience on the oline and they will have their starting QB.

They did make some defensive improvements last season.
I'd say Meigs, Nelsonville-York, or Athens could win the league this year.

Its not that big of deal!

Yea, NY plays D3 Vinton County - but D7 Trimble is a much better team/program.

Its not the size of the school that is the 'end-all-be-all' ... I'd play a D2 Marietta seven days a week and twice on Sunday before I'd play D6 Valley.

get my drift?

Nelsonville-York is DV, they have DV Alexander, DV Wellston and DV River Valley in their league. Nelsonville-York may have a few less boys in their school than those three, but a A LOT MORE FOOTBALL PLAYERS.

DIV Meigs is in the league and are pretty solid. DIII Athens is as well.
Vinton County may be DIII - but hasn't beaten Nelsonville-York in like 20 years or more.

Well we just have to agree to disagree. I think it is a pretty big deal, most schools would not schedule 4 divisions up for an out of conference game (Logan).

Not sure of any other SE school that on average has a tougher schedule. A lot of area "big" schools would do just the opposite.

Get my drift?

How would a D2 Logan or D3 Athens schedule up 4 divisions?

They obviously can't.

I was just "admiring" the fact NY plays a tough schedule, per one of the comments top 10 in all of D6 last year.

No biggie, everyone can relax, lol.

I know, just giving you a hard time and I'm with you on NY. Always have liked their approach of playing anyone anywhere anytime.

But I'm sure Athens vs NY will go back to close games
2008 NY 22-14 (105 yard interception)
2009 NY 14-13 (another late interception that caused a score)
2010 NY 28-27 (late fumble deep in ny territory)
2011 Athens 24-21 overtime

I'm not disagreeing that NY plays a tough schedule.

I always gave coach Boston credit for having the guts to play good programs. But it had nothing to do with division size, just good solid football 'programs' (i.e. DVI Newark Catholic, or DVII Trimble, or DVI Liberty Center).
