SEOAL Teams All-Time Win-Loss

Post by gotigers »

Since Ironton's 600 win snuck up on alot of people last season and there is another school with a chance for a milestone win this season, I thought I would put this out for everyone. The schools that I could find are as follows:

Ironton-----------------603-307-44
Zanesville---------------552-358-34
Jackson-----------------538-378-48
Portsmouth--------------532-384-30
Logan------------------491-315-28
Gallia Academy--------465-322-32
Marietta----------------439-445-37
Chillicothe---------------428-466-50

GO TIGERS!!!

gotigers -

Thanks for the info. Myself and Craig Dunn of the Logan Daily News have been researching the history of Logan football for a number of years now, and we have been able to definitely add several full seasons worth of records to our database.

I will be getting a new copy of the database this weekend, and will post the results here.

Logan began playing football sometime around the turn of the century, but our records go back only to 1912. Previously, we had only researched back to 1925 (at the start of the SEOAL).

I believe Logan is roughly around 514 wins at this point, but want to consult with Craig's database before I say that with 100% certainty.

Last year I was able to find a whole set of LHS yearbooks dating back to 1912 that allowed me to complete the LHS season before 1925.

I definitely think that GAHS and Logan have played more games than that. I know that Locos is working to document all of Logan's games. Hopefully someone will do the same for Gallia Academy. As Locos said, Logan has more than 500 victories and that figure could probably continue to rise as their history is further documented. I would also guess that GAHS is closing in on the 500 win plateau, rather than sitting at 465. It's just a matter of doing the research and finding all the records, which can be quite difficult.

I have Jackson's actual record as 539-378-48. I have seen them listed at 538 wins on more than one occasion but I absolutely cannot solve that discepancy. I have records of every game that Jackson has played and I always come to 539 wins. I guess 1 win isn't a big deal, but it still makes you wonder where the discrepancy comes from.

And that very type of thing, ironman02, is why I cringe whenever I see someone post Ironton's all-time "record". I think that 603-307-44 is not correct, but I have neither the time nor the inclination to go back 100+ years and try to figure out exactly what it is.

(someone will probably tell me that those are the numbers from such-and-such web sites; I don't care what web site it's from, including IFDC [with all due respect to my friend kantuckyII], I still think it's wrong)

Where did you all get those figures and how do we know they are right? Chillicothe has been playing for 110 years and has similar numbers to all of these schools. I didn't realize all of these other schools were as old as Chilli except really Zanesville and Marrietta. I find that to be a neat thing if that is really true that the SEOAL has played so many games between all of the schools.

Portsmouth was playing by at least 1906. Someone went to the library and athletic dept and got their numbers.

My records for Logan go back to 1912, but they were playing football before then.

I have a team picture from 1907 for one thing.

I believe the first "team" was in 1898. During the first homecoming game in the '30s, there was a sign in sheet for former players and two men signed in saying they had played in '98, giving Logan 110 years of football.

gymratt,

Jackson has been playing football since 1898. Jackson has a football history book that was compiled by Pete Woods, former assistant football coach at Jackson. He used high school records as well as newspaper articles and information given to him by Randy Heath.

WOW... THERES A LOT OF SCHOOLS THAT HAVE CLOSE OR BEEN CONSOLIDATED SINCE THAT TIME. SOME PROBABLY DIDN'T HAVE FOOTBALL THOUGH. IT WOULD BE VERY INTERESTING TO SEE ALL OF THE SCHOOLS AND THERE TEAMS THAT ARE GONE NOW.
