Rivalries

Post by PopeSnoopDogThe1st »

There seems to a lot of Rivalries to be played this week...What are some of the biggest and best rivalries and what are some of your fondest memories of rivalry games of the past?

Nelsonville-Yorks primary rival is Trimble, then Athens.
This year's week 10 Matchup with Athens has a lot on the line.
TVC title, Doc Kroner trophy, home playoff game.

Wheelersburg vs. West has historically been a big rivalry. West has more wins against Wheelersburg than any other school and many games in the past have had SOC and/or playoff implications. Not to mention that both teams are orange and black playing on the Friday before Halloween.

Wheelersburg vs West is always a rival game. A few others is Minford vs Valley, Minford vs Oak Hill, and Notre Dame vs East. East vs Oak Hill might be one of the oldest rivalries in the area. They started playing against each other in 1925.

Ironton Vs. Portsmouth Long time rivals
Rock Hill Vs. Coal Grove This game means as much to these two as making the playoffs since both are now out.

How about Wellston and Vinton Cty. Just a drive down or up the road.

If Teays Valley stays on the schedule it could be a Rivalry for the Chiefs.

That would be pretty cool.
You gotta find a way to keep Jackson!

I'd rather Logan not play Athens if it came down to a choice between playing either Jackson or Athens.

My favorite was Marietta turning off the lights on Athens

Definitely VC's biggest rival. Regardless of sport.

Logan will begin playing Sheridan as a game and I look for this to be one starting next year. Many years they have play as a scrimmage so this is one step closer.

this really got me to thinking about tiger football and I started thinking about teams we played on a regular basis I miss. of course the level of football is not the same now as it was then. a bunch of them are regular season opponents, some are playoff opponents we met on a regular basis. but in nearly all cases these schools got much bigger. rarely did they have a like enrollment to ironton. but i'll name some.

waverly
Huntington east
Huntington high
DuPont, w. va.
Dayton Jefferson
Dayton dunbar
Washington court house
akron saint Vincent saint Mary's
Germantown valley view
greenup co. ky
boyd co ky
westfall
Bellaire
Chillicothe
cabell midland
beechwood ky
Columbus bishop Watterson
Lawrence co ky
mariette
Zanesville

those were some awesome days in ironton football.
