I think that Washington C.H. was AP AA State Champs in 1973

The SCOL was in existence for many years before it was disbanded in the late 80's

That was also back when you didnt play with helmets. You were suppose to be competing for the league title as soon as you got here because you guys were so ready after leaving the OCC. That didnt happen. When we leave you guys will be able to win it. Until then, unfortunatly you wont :122245

grizzlynatural,
No say it isn't so..........Logan is thinking about leaving the SEOAL :?:

How many former NFL and NBA players has Logan produced :?: :aaaaa21

Since you brought up Katie Smith, how about these players from Chillicothe. Like I said, when you all get your State Championship Sign as a member from the SEOAL let me know, O.K. :?:

Now, would you like me to name a few from Chillicothe for you who went on to play professional sports :?:

How many has Logan produced :?:

How many D1 level College Athletes has Logan produced?

AFL-NFL Players from Chillicothe High School

1. Greg Cook

Chillicothe High School 1962-1966 QB.

One standout that played for the CAVS in the 1960's was:

Gregory Lynn Cook (born November 20, 1946 in Dayton, Ohio), is a retired American football quarterback. In the AFC.

Cook lived most of his life in Chillicothe, Ohio, where he excelled in baseball, basketball and football while attending Chillicothe High School.

He played collegiately at the University of Cincinnati, once throwing for 554 yards in one game, and was drafted by the Cincinnati Bengals in the first round of the 1969 NFL Draft on the strength of Bengals coach and founder Paul Brown being impressed by Cook's performance in the Bearcats' come-from-behind victory against Miami University, which was Bo Schembechler's last game before he left to coach at the University of Michigan. Brown had attended the game, but left when the Redskins' (now the Redhawks) lead reached 21-6. It was only after the game that Brown discovered that Cincinnati had rallied for a 23-21 victory.

"That quarterback. That's our draft choice," said Brown after seeing film of Cook's rallying performance.

Due to John Stofa, the Bengals' starting signalcaller for much of the team's inaugural season, being released, Cook was named the Bengals' quarterback, and started spectacularly, leading the Bengals to a 3-0 record. However, in game three versus Kansas City, Cook felt a pop in his right (throwing) shoulder after being tackled and missed the next three games. Due, arguably, to the non-existence of magnetic resonance imaging tests, the fact that his rotator cuff had been torn went undiagnosed.

Despite this, Greg Cook went on to pass for 1,854 yards and led the Bengals to wins over the Chiefs and the Oakland Raiders, the two best teams in the AFL. His 9.411 yards per pass attempt and 17.5 yard per completion are rookie records that still stand. Cook was UPI's choice for AFL Rookie of the Year.

Recalls Cook: "I took cortisone shots and played in pain, but the shoulder hadn't started to deteriorate yet, so I could still function. I still had the strength. I felt obligated to finish the season. I'd gotten off to a good start. I didn't want to relinquish that."

The rotator cuff began deteriorating after the season; during surgery, it was revealed that Cook also had a partially detached biceps muscle. After three operations proved futile, he retired. A 1973 comeback attempt failed and Cook retired permanently. Many football experts say that had it not been for that injury, Cook may very well have gone on to be one of the greatest quarterbacks of all time. Cook is not well known by fans today, but when asked by those who saw him play, who he was similar too, many reply that he had a very similar game to one of his contemporaries - Terry Bradshaw. Like Bradshaw, Cook had very good size, he could run with speed and power, and had a rocket arm.

Since his retirement, Greg Cook, who still lives in Cincinnati, has worked with United Parcel Service and with Worksite Information Network as a motivational speaker for labor unions.

Of interest, Cook was an art major at the University of Cincinnati, and continues to paint today. He has had works hung in the Ohio Governor's Mansion.

New York Jets quarterback Chad Pennington, who suffered two tears to his rotator cuff and has undergone as many surgeries to repair it, is often compared to Cook because their injuries are so similar.

Cincinnati Bearcats All-Century Team
QB — Greg Cook, 1966-68. Led nation in total offense in '68 with 3,210 yards; No. 1 draftee by Bengals in '69.

College All-Star Game
1969 Greg Cook, QB (MVP)
1969: New York Jets 26, College All-Stars 24 The Jets reprised the formula they used to stun the Baltimore Colts in Super Bowl III seven months earlier: Joe Namath's arm, Matt Snell's legs and Jim Turner's toe. But the All-Stars didn't go as quietly as the Colts-Greg Cook rallied them with three touchdown passes, one to Altie Taylor, who also had a 78-yard kickoff return. The Jets caught a huge break when an official negated a 52-yard TD interception return by Rudy Redmond, citing college rules. The game was played under pro rules, so Redmond should have been allowed to advance the ball after catching it on the ground. With the fifth pick in the 1969 draft, the Bengals took one of their own hometowners, quarterback Greg Cook. He was from Chillicothe, Ohio and played his college ball at the University of Cincinnati, a school known more for its basketball than anything else.

In his only full AFL season, Cook played in 11 of 14 games that year. He completed 53.8 percent of his passes for 1,854 yards, 15 touchdowns and 11 interceptions. His passer rating that year was 88.3. According to Wikipedia, he was drafted after the Bengals coach and founder Paul Brown was impressed by Cooks performance in the UC Bearcats' come-from-behind victory against Miami of Ohio, which was Bo Schembechler's last game before he left to coach at the University of Michigan. But Cook tore up his rotator cuff during that 1969 season, effectively ending his brief NFL career.

Was an American Hall of Fame basketball player at the center position who played 8 years in the NBA from 1951 to 1959.

He led the NBA in scoring for three consecutive seasons — 1952-53, 1953-54, and 1954-55. During the 1954-55 season, he also won the league's rebounding title. Johnston played his entire career with the Philadelphia Warriors, playing on their championship team in 1956. He played in six NBA All-Star Games, was an All-NBA First Team selection four times, and was an All-NBA Second Team selection once.

**After his playing career, he coached the Warriors for the first two seasons of Wilt Chamberlain's NBA career.

He attended the Ohio State University, where he starred in baseball and basketball. Johnston signed a professional baseball contract with the Philadelphia Phillies out of college and pitched two years for the Terre Haute Phillies of the Three-I League.

He was enshrined in the Basketball Hall of Fame in 1990.

DI College Level Athletes from Chillicothe High School

Other standouts from the Chillicothe CAV Program that went on to play at the Collegiate Level were:

a. John Hernstein (Michigan)
He scored the winning TD against Ohio State and played in the Rose Bowl.

b. Joe Yeager played with Greg Cook at Chiilicothe. He also played at Ohio State but transferred to Ohio University due to Woody Hayes not letting him play baseball too. Ohio University let him play two sports so he transferred.

c. Greg Lunde (Indiana)

e. Adam Porter (Ohio U.)
f. Art Adams (Ohio U.)
g. Shane Clark (Ohio St., also played in the Rose Bowl '97)

Edward Cook (* 27 November 1889 as Edward Tiffin Cook jr. in Chillicothe, Ohio; † 18 October 1972) was an US-American athlete. With a body size of 1,78 m its match weight amounted to 66 kg.

1908 supplied themselves the two Americans Walter Dray and Alfred Gilbert a match around the improvement (unofficial) of the world record in the Stabhochsprung, Pole Vault in whose process the world record was increased by Dray from the year 1907 from 3.79 meters to 3.90 meters. Gilbert jumped with 3.855 meters and 3.86 meters of two world records.

With the Olympic Games 1908 was not Dray at the start. Alfred Gilbert jumped 3.71 meters, but Edward Cook came on the same height. Stinging was not accomplished and was not explained in such a way both athletes as the olympia winner, and three further as Olympia third. Cook began also in the Weitsprung Weitsprung.... (der)

IC4A CHAMPIONSHIPS (1876-1942)
The championship meeting of the Intercollegiate Association of Amateur Athletes of America was first held in 1876. The event was effectively the national collegiate championships of the United States until the introduction of the NCAA meeting in 1921. Since that point in time the event has declined in importance and is now mainly contested by colleges and universities in the north east of the country (and still remains a men's only organisation). This compilation lists winners, courtesy of Jesse Squire, from 1876-1942.

http://therelays.blogspot.com/2007/01/i ... -gold.html

Originally scheduled to take place in Rome, the Italian government gave up the right to host the 1908 Games when Mt. Vesuvius erupted in 1906. The IOC proceeded to let London hold the Games a very good decision. With no WorldÆs Fair to distract from the competitions, the London Games were starkly different from the poorly organized 1900 Paris and 1904 St. Louis Games.

Marching with the United States was John Baxter Taylor (Penn '08). Little did he know at the time, Taylor would become the first AfricanAmerican to win a gold medal. His Olympic experience started with what has been one of the most controversial events in Olympic history the 1908 400meter race.

The 400meter final included four men: Wyndham Halswelle of Great Britain, and Americans William Robbins, John C. Carpenter (Cornell '07), and Taylor. In the homestretch, the race came down to Halswelle and Carpenter. Officials contended that Carpenter obstructed Halswelle pursuit to take the lead, and ripped the finish line tape before the race finished. The race was to be rerun without Carpenter two days later. In a show of solidarity, John Baxter Taylor and William Robbins refused to participate leaving Halswelle to walk around the track to earn the gold medal.

Taylor would later win his gold medal in the sprint medley relay, the first relay race in Olympic history. The team, which also included Taylor's Penn teammate and twotime Olympian Nathaniel J. Cartmell, won the race by three seconds, making Taylor the first AfricanAmerican to win a gold medal.

Taylor tragically passed away in December 1908, at the age of 26, from typhoid.

The London Games also featured the Olympic debut of Mike 'Big Greek' Dorizas (Penn '15) somewhat of a mythical figure in University City as a threesport (football, wrestling, track and field) athlete who was once dubbed the strongest athlete in the world. Dorizas competed in the javelin throw for his native Greece. At Penn, he was known for his 29inch thighs, the size of an average freshmanÆs waist, and for pinning wrestling opponents in remarkable time.

Penn athletes were not the only successful Leaguers in London. Dartmouth had its firstever Olympians at the 1908 Games: Arthur B. Shaw '08 and D.R. Sherman. Shaw won the bronze medal in the 110meter hurdles. Six Cornell track and field athletes were at the Games Edward Cook Class of 1910 won the 1908 London Olympic Games Pole Vault Gold Medal and Harry Porter '05 won the high jump gold medal.

George Dole (Yale '06) won the Ancient Eight's first wrestling medal in the featherweight (63 kg) division. Dole was merely a few inches over 5feet tall.

Looks like he was a track star at Chillicothe High School before going on to run for Cornell in the IVY League and then to the 1908 London Olympics, representing the United States.

I guess Logan is not the only one huh? (Katie Smith)

But as I have said BEFORE, we too have folks who have played at the D1 level in College and, in both the NFL and NBA. Does Logan?

Still waiting?

Oh, and one last small point, since Logan has been in the SEOAL, what 1925? Do they have a State Title Sign hanging at the entrance of all their city limit lines?

Thought so!

How long was Chillicothe a member in the SEOAL when they won a State Title? Two years you say. Point made!

NUFF SAID!

GO CAVS :!:

2000- Nelsonville-York
2001- Wellston
2002- Wellston

2008- Nelsonville-York

Nelsonville-York was not CO-Champs of the TVC-Ohio in 2007. They had to forfiet two games. One with Wellston and I believe Alexander. And one non-league game against River Valley due to an ineligable player. Remember? :-D

Geeeez BuckeyeCav, you're as bad as the Arnton people. Braggin and throwing stats up about your HIGH SCHOOL teams. Call me old fashioned, but if you weren't on the team or staff, you shouldn't act like you did something to give yourself the right to brag about "state championship signs" all over your town.

Congrats to the PLAYERS AND COACHES on the teams, not the fans who sit in front of a computer for hours on end typing up stats and records from a hundred years ago.

What have you done yourself in the past year that grants you the permission to brag about yourself, not some high school kids. At the end of the day, do you want to be known because you root for the team who won a state title? Is that it....?

JabbatheDel,

Geeeez,

I didn't know you were the SEOPS Police. Enforcing who could apply stats and who could not on here. Sounds like jealousy to me. Maybe wishing you knew the stats of your team or league you support? Or, you must be a NY fan and are mad that someone made a correction on the 2007 statement they were TVC-Ohio Co-Champs. In which they were not. :-D

Or you are Aa Logan fan that has no Major H.S. Sport State Title!

Maybe I am closer to the program than you know. Maybe our family is heavily involved. Either way, who cares what you think should be. Without records how would a team accord their success. Something you definitley don't understand. Or you would not made the remark to typing stats and records. If you are from Logan....all you have to do is go to their website. Stats? One thing, I am a fan and parent of a player too. We also support the boosters. Three, I also played the sport, did you? The stats are for our fans, and supporters. I take it you must be from a program that has no State Title in B-Ball either. Either way, your opinion doesn't matter. Have a great Cavalier Day. :-D

First off, I'm not policing anybody and never would. I just get sick of people dogging other poeple because of what some high school kids did where I graduated from WHICH WAS NOT WELLSTON OR LOGAN!!!!!

I'm not singling out Chillicothe or any particular reason. ACTUALLY, I mentioned Arnton being that way. Regardless, I just got sent off the edge by the two of you bickering ABOUT WHO CAME FROM YOUR TOWN!!! Honestly, who cares?

Army, so what if you go to all the booster meetings and spaghetti dinners? That doesn't mean you're on the staff.

Also, if you do have a son on a team, I guarantee everytime you post stuff like that on here, he thinks less and less of you and porbably gets annoyed and embarassed everytime you yell at the refs, umps, linejudges, whoever you think you know more than. Because I'll just about bet money that you're "that dad".

I guess I had better go ahead and confirm the rumor that I do live in Gallipolis. I guess that little birdie noticed that I post on the GA baseball threads. Hmm, that's one smart birdie. I enjoy watching baseball games here in town and like the way Coach Corvin runs his outfit. He is a good coach and it's a shame what they're doing to him there.

I just can't figure out why you make so many personal attacks....it hurts so bad.....

I didn't want to deflate your balloons about your state champs sign, but I will anyway.

I'll give you a hint, MY hometown is 8th in the NATION in wins in football.....

Nothing yet?

MY hometown has won 11 STATE CHAMPIONSHIPS, not one.

Figure it out yet?

Parkersburg, West Virginia. Home of the Big Reds.

I don't gloat and brag because I'm used to winning titles there. Sorry about humbling you so much, but you deserved it.

But please, go ahead and toot your little horn about basketball, which happens to be my least favorite sport, I even like soccer more than basketball, when you play GA. I'll be more interested this spring when they start playing baseball. But you probably won't be there for that will you?

Laugh all you want. You and I both know that 11 is a bigger number than 1. Alot bigger, even in West Virginia. :122245

By the way, your town still smells bad.

I agree. From the 70's through the 90's WV consolidated so many schools there are not that many left.
