Nice league divisions but don't see it. Number one, Lancaster is very comfortable in the OCC.

My two Division SEOAL would look like this:

SEOAL (Buckeye Division)
Circleville Logan Elm D3
Circleville D3
Fayette County Miami-Trace D3
Washington C.H. D3
Hillsboro D3
Greenfield McClain D3
Chillicothe D3
Jackson D2

SEOAL (Ohio Division)
Waverly D4
Minford D5
Portsmouth West D4
Portsmouth D4
Wheelersburg D5
Ironton D4
Ironton Rock Hill D4
Gallipolis (Gallia Academy) D4

Let's call it the Buckeye South or something like that. League Champ would just about be guaranteed home seed playoffs.

Minford
Burg
West
Coal Grove
Piketon
Rock Hill
Amanda-Clearcreek
Jackson
Wellston

FAIRLAND
JACKSON
GALLIA ACADEMY

DIV 2
COAL GROVE
CHESEPEAKE
PORTSMOUTH WEST
WHEELERSBURG

You only have to play 5 conference games to go for championship and inter-conference doesn't count and the 5 conference games are determined before the season (seeing that all of these teams play each other anyway.)

Would like to see Logan get into a larger league. They are ready. I doubt Hamilton TWP would bite at that league though.

I doubt if the GCLSD would allow SG and RV into the same league in spite of their past one league affiliation when there were four Gallia County HSs. They wont even let them PLAY right now.

Bring back the SVAC and have two divisions:

Red Division
Southern
Oak Hill
South Gallia
Eastern

Blue Division
River Valley
Buffalo
Symmes Valley
Wahama

Use a week of the season to have the two division champs play for the league title and then everything else could be nonconference. This would prevent RV and SG from having to play except for a league title and I am thinking under those circumstances all of Gallia County would be in favor of the game. Teams from each division could opt to play each other to help fill out the nonconference slate.

You are right gahs. When SG was formed, the two schools agreed not to play one another at any Varsity level sport.

My ideal league would actually be the SEOAL as it was for decades before consolidations made some schools much larger than others.......

Athens
Gallipolis
Jackson
Logan
Middleport
Nelsonville
Pomeroy
Wellston

All schools were fairly close to each other distance wise and, in the days before consolidations, all schools were closer in size to each other than they are today (before Hocking County all consolidated with Logan, before The Plains and Chauncey consolidated with Athens, etc.). Plus you had the longstanding, built in rivalries already in existance.

That one is pretty good too. The more I think about it the more I'm thinking that Gahanna should switch with Canal Winchester. Instant Groveport/Canal rivalry there. Gahanna would by far be the biggest school of the league and doesn't seem to fit as much as I originally thought.

IMHO, Logan will only be in the SEOAL until the ideal situation comes along. I believe that in a matter of years the the OCC will become too big (like it isn't now :122245 ) and will start to trim off the outlying schools (Lancaster, Newark, Watkins) to a core "270" league. Also Canal and Hammy are both growing quickly and will soon be too big for the MSL. I think that Groveport ,Pick North and Grove City would jump at the opportunity. Pick Central is the only "up in the air" school IMO. The new league would be better with them but fine without them. Something along these lines will happen in the future, it's just a matter of when.

I agree Logan will not always be and were not always dominant in football. I remember River Valley beating Logan twice in three years (1995 and 1997)

Consolidate Nelsonville-York and Trimble to create a Division III school that makes it large enough to be competative in the SEOAL in all sports, moving the consolidated school to the SEOAL.

gahs4ever wrote:I cant begin to pretend to know what the higher ups at Logan are thinking long term, but at 515 boys they are among the biggest DII schools, just as they once were the smallest DI in the state. That combined with an 83 year history and commitment to the SEOAL should mean something. No one under the age of about 100 can remember when Logan WASNT a member of the SEOAL. One of the reasons Zanesville cited for leaving was no connections or long standing rivalries. That ought to count for something.

Logan will not always be this dominant in football. They never have over time, and the pendulum I keep talking about has a way of swinging back the other way from time to time. Winning the SEOAL football championship once every four years is hardly domination, although Logan has certainly had their way pretty much going back the last 10 years.

The bypass around Lancaster should have opened things up in terms of schools on the east side of Columbus and suburbs having a shorter trip to Logan. If Lancaster is OCC stuff, its less than a half hour farther to Logan, I believe.

GAHS, Jackson and Logan ARE the SEOAL! There wouldnt be an SEOAL without their persistence over the long haul. Others have come and gone; some more than twice and yet the league continues as the only viable option for DII and III football playing schools in the SE Ohio quadrant.

Until recently, Jackson had won the most SEOAL football titles, and it took the current ten year drought for Logan to overtake them. My take on that is it is about time Jackson's pendulum begins another upswing as it has so often in the past.

Chillicothe, Ironton, and Zanesville were football upgrades that over time would have benefitted everyone in the league in terms of programs improving. Unfortunately two of those decided to seek greener pastures elsewhere. The league will survive.

Chillicothe is very happy with the SEOAL. They are here to stay unless the league falls apart.

I think Logan will move to a larger league eventually. It's in the cards. No matter what anyone says on here. Just because a team has been in a league for 83 years does not make a clear shut case. Here is my question. Does Logan look like their population within their school system will continue to grow? Does Logan play in the Southeast District concerning tournament play? No! They play in the Central District. Is Logan closer to Columbus and surrounding Schools than the present SEOAL make-up? I see Logan being in a league in the future with the possible likes of; Lancaster, Pickerington North, Newark, Zanesville, Groveport-Madison, Canal Winchester and Watkins Memorial. Even......though Logan has 83 plus years in the SEOAL.

I see the SEOAL with 5 to 6 teams left in it, within the next few years coming down the road. Chillicothe will be one of those schools. The others will be Portsmouth, Jackson, Gallipolis and hopefully Marietta. Not sure about Warren Local.....as they continue the full court press behind the scenes to re-enter the TVC. Even though the Warriors deny this in the open.

Mister B thinks that Warren should be in the TVC-Ohio stating they would not rule that Conference. But most already know they would. That's why they were told last year no thanks.
