Ironton 2012- 9 ?? games scheduled so far

Post by ohbuckeye2 »

http://www.irontontribune.com/2011/12/0 ... -the-year/

Ironton fans think football at any time of the year.

Just when basketball is tipping off, there’s no better time than to talk about football.

In Ironton, there seems to be three seasons. Football season, the off-season and pre-season.

Since this is the off-season, a lot of fans have speculated about the 2012 schedule. As of now, there are eight games scheduled and several other teams negotiating.

The opener is Aug. 24 at Wheelersburg followed by a trip to Russell, Ky.

The first home game is Sept. 7 against Gallipolis with Ashland, Ky., coming to Tanks Memorial Stadium the next week.

Next is a trip to Portsmouth. The teams played the final game of the season the past two years, but the SEOAL is playing its league games over the final five weeks forcing this game to be moved.

Ironton picks up a new opponent with a trip to Johnson Central, Ky., on Sept. 28.

There is an open date waiting to be filled followed by the return of Bishop Hartley. Ironton goes to Oak Hill — another first-time opponent — the following week and the final week is still open.

Why are they playing Oak Hill?????? What are they going to get out of that game other than getting to rest there starters for the entire second half.

Is Ironton that desperate for games?

I think that looks like a fairly difficult schedule already with more to come. Ironton will find out plenty playing the teams scheduled thus far.
Also I have been told the Oak Hill coach has said he wants to play the best teams he can. And I say good for him. Its refreshing to see a coach willing to schedule up and try to better his program. He wanted Ironton, I'town did'nt go there looking for a easy game. I tip my cap to Oak Hill's coach, at least he's trying to improve the program there. You gotta play the top teams before you can be a top team. There are many programs that could use that kind of attitude. He's trying to build something special there, and we all should commend that.

i agree ITB, and i think some people forget how small we actually are. 2 kids from d5, and oak hill is d5. and just 2 years ago was the d5 team to beat in these parts.

I agree totally about coaches wanting to schedule up but you also have to be a little realistic about it. This game is suicide for Oak Hill, that new coach apparently has no clue about the background of Ironton. A game like this could ruin his season if he would get too many kids banged up.

Isn't Oak Hill game week 9? They just need to be healthy enough to play one more week.

Long drive but
Bellaire
Martins Ferry
ST.Clairsville

All at times could be good games with a lot of computer points.
Bellaire is slowly getting back to competeing again, but they are losing so many in the town they might not ever be what they once were.

If I interpret the first post correctly, Ironton's schedule look like this...

week 1 at Wheelersburg
week 2 at Russell (KY)
week 3 Gallipolis
week 4 Ashland (KY)
week 5 at Portsmouth
week 6 at Johnson Central (KY) (first meeting ever)
week 7 OPEN
week 8 Bishop Hartley
week 9 at Oak Hill (first meeting ever)
week 10 OPEN

Is the Oak Hill a two game contract or a one game?
And if it is only a one game then next years schedule may be alot different considering Gallia academy
is coming off it to.

You are correct. Heard it from Jason Philyaw and Tim Collins tonight.

According to OHSAA web site St. Charles's schedule is full and Ironton is not on the schedule.
