GAHS fall athletes honored Monday evening

MVP Awards go to Heather Ward, Tim Warner,
Peyton Adkins, Nick Saunders, Jared Lester,
Brandon Taylor and Aaron Guisinger


More than 160 Gallia Academy High School fall athletes were honored during Monday night’s 67th annual awards ceremony in the Holzer Performing Arts Auditorium at GAHS in Centenary.

Athletes honored were members of the 2011 football, golf, soccer, cross country and volleyball squads before a huge audience.

Highlight of the two-and-one-half hour program was presentation of individual awards to the student athletes. Craig Wright, GAHS Athletic Director, served as master of ceremonies.

Coaches Joni Eddy, cheerleaders, Amy Shriver, volleyball, Corey Luce, golf, Joshua Simmons, soccer, Todd May, cross-country and Mike Eddy, football, gave comments on their respective squads.

Individual All-SEOAL Athletic, All-SEOAL Academic, All-District and All-Ohio awards went to several Blue Devil and Blue Angle athletes.

Heather Ward and Haley Rosier shared the Girls Fall Scholastic Award sponsored by the GAHS Academic Boosters Club. Josh Donley, assistant GAHS principal, presented the award. The Boys Fall John Groth II Scholastic Award sponsored by the GAHS National Society was Boeing Smith. NHS President Evans Smalley presented the award.

Most Valuable Player Awards went to:

Volleyball—Heather Ward. The award was sponsored by the GAHS Athletic Department and presented by Craig Wright, athletic director.

Boys Cross Country—Tim Warner. The award was sponsored by The Wiseman Insurance Agency and presented by Justin Bailey, FCA captain.

Girls Cross Country—Peyton Adkins. The award was sponsored by The Wiseman Agency and presented by Haley Rosier, FCA captain.

Golf—Nick Saunders. The award was sponsored by the 1989 GAHS golf team and presented by Craig Wright, AD and GAHS alum.

Soccer—Jared Lester. Sponsored by the Senior High Student Council the award was presented by Tim Warner, council president.

Football—Brandon Taylor and Aaron Guisinger. The award was sponsored by the GAHS Principal’s Fund and presented by GAHS Principal Tim Massie.

Congrats to the GAHS soccer team for receiving the Sportsmanship Award from the Ohio/West Virginia Officials Association!! A great honor to be selected!

Aaron Guisinger, a 6-3, 320-pound senior senior offensive lineman, captured the 2011 Golden Helmet Award during Monday evening's ceremony.

The 2011 weekly Golden Helmet winners named were:

Wade Jarrell, Athens; Brandon taylor, Licking Hts.; Drew Young, Wellston; Justin Bailey, Marietta; Aaron Guisinger, Ironton; Zack Tackett, Logan; Dallas Moss, Chillicothe; Cody Russell, Portsmouth; Bryant Bokovitz, Warren Local and Ty Warnimont, Jackson.

The awards were sponsored by Saunders Insurance Co., this fall.
