xando I have said those very words you pointed out but I have said them for the reasons that botcowa said. It makes me cringe every time I see a boy drop his head and I do teach lead with the chest. The numbers statement is simply to reinforce that if you can't see 'em the head is down. Dropping the head is the only mistake you can make on my team that will get punishment reps the first time it is made. We also take an extra amount of time to work on tackling technique and it truly does pay off come game time, especially at a youth level. And I haven't taught shoulder blocking since hands were allowed 10-15 yrs ago whenever it was,you probably know. I too encourage EVERYONE to teach the proper technique and keep those heads up.

One other point that I have always made with kids is, KEEP YOUR EYES OPEN. Kids that drop their head usually close their eyes to contact. I don't put any kid in that I think is a eye closer!
