He didn’t throw much because it’s early season (some would say pre season) and turnovers would have cost him a chance at winning in the4th quarter. it was great strategy last year as irontons turnovers cost them the game.
I think Wheelersburg will figure it out once the conference schedule begins.
when you are outmatched talent and speed wise, like last year, you devise a conservative strategy that gives you the best chance to win. It worked last year and it could possibly work again in the playoffs this year. The Pirates probably lose this game and maybe the Jackson game. However, they should win all their league games and will make playoffs with at least 6 with na and maybe even 5.
All that matters is making the playoffs. At this stage in Burgs program, league titles don’t mean much, playoff wins do

Great points all around. I think Burg faithful were very pleased with how the defense played. They held there own that's for sure.

Offense still has some kinks to work out, mainly the passing game. Jones had some pretty big passing plays late in the season so he is for sure capable of throwing the ball. They have to be able to throw some or teams will just stuff the box and make it difficult.

You are correct on the run game being able to control the clock but you have to keep the defense honest. Lattimore, Glover, Darling and Warren are all capable of having a big game any night.

With them taking 16 per region this year, hell 4 wins would b get you in the playoffs. Lol

Started out 2-3 last year and still made it to the Regional Championship game last year.

That has a nice ring to it as well.

Last year had to be the second biggest upset in the history of HS football around here when Burg beat Ironton in the playoffs!!

The first will coming later on this season when Burg upsets them again in the playoffs!!

We will see of course Ironton's JV did dominate Burg's JV so the future of Burg football is over.

We will never know how good of a coach Pendleton is because he can't coach with what talent he has. He has to stack his team every year to win, except last year, in the playoffs, to a team he had already beaten, on a neutral field.

Maybe its time for all that "superior coaching" to step away for a younger, more presently acclimated staff. Might find an end zone this season. 😂

He has a winning record vs burg and Ironton has outscored them severely during his tenure.

Truth is burg hasn't really ever been dominant with Ironton with the exception of the Holden years for them and Vass years for Ironton. And these last 5 years burg has and is suffering from a Holden hangover. During most of the Lutz years burg was just too tiny to compete with Ironton year in and year out.

3 losses to the elite Ironton club and they are having a Holden hangover?????

2 Burg wins with one of those coming in the playoffs, which is a game that actually means something. If he can beat Burg in the playoffs then I will give him some credit.

Burg doesn’t need your approval of how good they are. Their 4th overall winning percentage in Ohio history speaks for itself. Ironton being good is good for the area.

Ironton fans like to talk a lot despite not having won a state title since 1989! It’s been over 30 years!!

Again, get back to me when Ironton wins again… in any sport!!

In all honesty Pendletons brother is the better coach!
If he ever relinquishes the offense duties to him the offense will be better.
