Of what use would playing the defending state champion, who just ran roughshod in week 16 to the score of 74-0, serve to a River program who is currently in such bad shape that they won’t play Ferry in week one?

Why is River's program in bad shape? I'd disagree. Thought it was good last few years. R27 teams, especially in the lower counties, won't play them.

For a D7, River did lose to four larger playoff teams (Col. Crawford, Martins Ferry, Monroe Central, Barnesville), a combined 38-8.
Made playoffs, but Pilots played one of the tougher schedules in R27.

I understand that part. They just weren’t as good (not as talented, not as deep, and not as trench sound) as they were in 22 and 23.

Agree with both of ya. The depth wasn't there last season and River really didn't have a QB for the 1st time in 10 years.
