Looking at the comparison, the TVC-OHIO was better than the SEOAL this year in terms of TEAM RECORDS...

TVC-OHIO
(10-0) Athens
(9-1 ) Nelsonville-York
(7-3 ) Alexander
(6-4 ) Meigs
(5-5 ) Wellston
(1-9 ) Vinton County
(38-22) TEAM RECORDS

SEOAL
(10-0) Jackson
(6-4 ) Gallia Academy
(5-5 ) Warren
(3-7 ) Chillicothe
(3-7 ) Portsmouth
(1-9 ) Logan
(28-32) TEAM RECORDS

The one thing I like about this Athens team is the fact they have played several close games this season. They have had to battle to the very end in a lot of contest this year and that should help them when they play a very good Jackson Ironmen squad this Friday...

Spartan & A-Town Big Dog - Ignore Athens78, we all know how hard these boys have worked and we also know that they had no decision in choosing the League they wanted to play in. They are simply playing the cards they were dealt and this year have been treating all of us Bulldogs Alumnus & Fans to some great football. Another thing A78 has failed to notice is that the SEOAL is no where the League it once was, and Athens move to the TVC has been nothing but positive for ALL-SPORTS and ALL-GATES.

Jackson 10-0- I don't care who you play, 10-0 is impressive. The win against Ironton was solid, but still, not a typical Ironton squad. Decent win against St. Charles, but you still gave up 35 points. Look at the good teams that St. Charles played, none of them gave up close to 35.
None of those good teams scored even remotely close to 49 points on the St. Charles D either.

93bulldog,

My sources in Athens gave me some pretty astonishing news a while ago. Would you like to go ahead and confess to your fellow Bulldogs what you were wearing, or do I have to do it for you?

Uh, let me see - "I told him I would give him 10-points and we could bet a dollar?"

There ya go ... I'm pretty sure that is what was said.

Yeah...the fact that 9-1 Beechcroft, 8-2 Eastmoor Academy and DeSales totaled just 7 more points than Jackson is kinda telling of our offense.

On the flipside of that....Athens turned the ball over 5 times last week.....you know they're going to give special attention to that during practice this week.

I hope it's a Jackson win with no turnovers and 2 or fewer punts.

General question all you want.

Coach Hall and his dad seem to go by the LSU/Alabama defensive philosophy. Run the 3-4 with as much speed on the D line that you can get and Line backers that are fast and tough, and obviously the DB's run under a 4.9 The slowest defensive player we have is probably our middle backer and he's a run stopper so that doesn't effect him.

O.J. Barr is our DT and is not that big at all but is strong and so quick no linemen can block him. If you haven't seen this kid play you are missing out, he is simply amazing.

DT 4.7 5'7 170 Jr
DT 4.6 5'9 175 Sr
DT 4.7 5'7 150 Sr
OLB/DE 4.5 6'0 225 Sr
MLB 4.9 6'0 255 Sr
MLB 4.7 5'11 215 Jr
OLB/DE 4.8 6'3 215 Jr
C 4.7 5'8 155 Jr
FS 4.6 5'6 155 Soph
SS 4.5 5'11 190 Sr
C 4.5 5'10 175 Sr

Sub
MLB 4.7 6'2 215 Fresh (he is going to play D1 no questions asked)

Athens fans, don't confuse all Jackson fans as those talking down the TVC. Other SEOAL teams might get on this thread and talk down the TVC and talk up the SEOAL but we know that is not the case. Jackson, Athens, NY would have been 1,2,3 in the SEOAL this season. SEOAL a few years ago, then it's a different story but that is not the case. I just believe there are a few lower teams that bring the TVC down, but the top teams can play some football. They are just rooting against other leagues because they finished in the bottom of their own.

6'3 215 jr?

I believe Osborne, McNelly and Ervin at 4.5, but on the field with pads and in game situations they are considerably faster than everyone else. Ervin cracking through a hole on his way to the endzone just completely pulls away from everyone. Osborne going around the end is almost impossible to angle off with his acceleration (best I've seen at that since Johnny King). McNelly? Well when the opponent breaks a long one watch McNelly....he just blows right by several in pursuit and no one is going as fast.

my mistake , I meant Sophomore #80. And obviously with pads on they don't run that, but that's not how a 40 time is ran. Like I said that doesn't always win games, but it makes a huge difference when your defense can fly to the ball.

I just couldn't think what junior you were speaking of.

I know how 40's are ran. Were they using a stopwatch or FAT timing?

Definitely gotta have speed.

I know one thing ... I hate playing a team that has speed/talent and the ability to scramble & run at the QB position ... It kind of drives you nuts ... You think you have certain run plays stopped, you are prepared for the pass - and then BAM! - the QB fakes to the tail-back and runs the other way for 30 yards ... Arrghhhhhh! Its like seeing Donnie Johnson or Jared Humphreys all over again ... The ability to scramble and run boot-legs is incredibly underrated in high school football ... Very tough to stop and very valuable if you have that type of weapon come playoff time when yards are hard to come by.

And no Ironman02 - no need for red attire here buddy - thanks for the offer though.

Well wait, I'll take an Ohio State shirt if you got an extra one.

Good point, 93. Osborne is extremely dangerous. He can hurt you in a variety of ways, but his ability to improvise when things break down makes him even tougher to contain. Once you key on him, though, Ervin and Landrum will make you pay. And of course, Ty McNelly is one of the best WRs in SE Ohio. This is one of the most balanced offenses Jackson has had in quite a while. Obviously they still like to run the ball, but Osborne has been very efficient through the air also with 19 TDs to only 5 INTs.

For Jackson to have success offensively, though, they're gonna have to make sure to get a hat on guys like Sorrell, Rider, and Russell. If they can't block those guys, Jackson will struggle to move the football. Mitch Rider put together one of the best performances I have seen from a HS linebacker in Week 1 at Gallipolis. I don't want to see anything close to that this Friday, so the Jackson O-Line and fullbacks will need to account for him at all times.
