I never liked Kenny Loggins.

This thread is crazy! WHO CARES about a cold night in freakin November 1996? Worry about what is going on now, not what happened back then. Just because there are a few individuals on this thread trying to relive their glory days of high school football means nothing to what matters right now and that is hiring a head coach for this program.

define irony...

They didn't hire a compitent coach to be the first at River Valley,
they tried to make up for that blunder by hiring the guy they should have
just after consolidation in Greg Deel.

You are totally right, and I greatly apologize for talking about November 1996. From now on, I will think before I post. Again, I apologize.

I believe "Irony" is an old wooden ship erected back in the Civil War era.

They made a good decision when they brought in coach Triplet, and
it showed that bringing in and outside guy can make a team half way decent.
Any body remember River Valley being able to beat Logan and Gallia Academy?
I do, and it was Tripplet who brought that to the Raiders.

They couldn't keep him though, and made a coaching hire that would
see the Raiders go 0-40 over the next 4 years. So much for hiring a relative of the
President of the board.

It amazing how a team that returned many players from a n 0-10 year can instantly turn
it around and become a winning group in just one year.

I hope and pray that the powers that be will hire a guy that not only
brings in a system that the players can buy into, but also instills a since of
pride that has not been seen at that school since we all stormed the field one
cold Friday night in November of 1996.

It looks as though you have all the answers.

Let me throw out a few more questions for you or anyone else that would care to answer.

How do you bring players from 4 schools into one? Keep in mind those players came from 4 different systems.

After competing against Eastern, Southern, Symmes Valley, Oak Hill and each other you ask them to go on the field against Ironton, Portsmouth, Miami Trace, East Bank and others. What would be your realistic expectations?

How many students were in the high school in 1993? 1998 (after reopening SG)? 2003? 2008?

Did you know that RV has nearly half the enrollment now as it did when opened?

Can you tell us why Triplett left?

You mentioned having many players return from an 0-10 team and instantly turn into a winning program. Can you tell me the schedule from that last 0-10 season? What about the schedule from the next season, 5-5? or the next season 6-4?

I have known and respected each of the 4 previous head fb coaches here at RV for several years. They are all hard working men with a knowledge of the game I would compare to any in the region.

Maybe I will think of more questions later.

Raiderball:

It isn't too hard to differentiate between those on here who know something and those who don't.

The initial RV consolidation, from a sports perspective, wasn't terribly well planned. The schedules in the first few years were royal bears. RV ended up playing some awfully good teams in those years (Gallipolis at its best, Ironton, Portsmouth, East Bank).

I sat with coach James breaking down tape for those games in 1993. When the W.Va. Class AA state champion is only about the fourth-best team on your schedule, you are faced with a task akin to cleaning the Augean stables.

The man I really feel badly for is Larry Carter. The guy earned the RV job by virtue of his work as DC at Gallia Academy. He came into the situation when SG was just starting to pull kids away from RV and was faced with doing that in the SEOAL. Up until that point RV had been competitive against the SEOAL (beating Logan twice in three years).

Hell, even Ironton (as a school which has been dropping enrollment) is getting all it wants in the SEOAL these days. Larry's reputation gets a raw deal from a lot of folks.

It has been said that Gregg Deel was the luckiest man in Gallia County b/c he didn't get the RV job in 1992. It was also said that Mel Coen was the smartest man in Gallia County b/c he didn't want the RV job. Jack James has been called both the dumbest and the unluckiest man in Gallia County because he wanted the RV job and got it. (no offense meant to my good friend Jack)

KarlAgathon-Didn't you just quote James?

How many people know what Coach Triplett told Coach Carter on the way out the door?

Good luck to who ever is the next coach at River Valley!

First of all, I have the utmost respect for Triplett and James ( I played under both).

James did a good job with the RV teams, considering the circumstances; he went 10-20. If you compare his record to Triplett's (10-19), I don't see much of a difference. Really in truth, there is not a whole lot of difference in them as coaches. Triplett's coaching method's were a just little more barbaric (in a good way).

also Triplett was lucky enough to catch Logan when they were down; he didn't have to play Ironton or Portsmouth, and RV stopped playing Trace.

Actually Raiderball....since you re-answered all of dublin's answers, it looks like YOU have all the answers. Not trying to be a jerk, but dublin and I know just as much about the situation and RV as you do.

I apologize to all for talking about November 1996. It is evidently a sin, and does not need to be mentioned. Again, I apologize.

Actually RVRaiderfan, I was looking for answers to the questions I asked. Legitimate questions IMO.

I dont know Raiderball. Sorry, that I upset you. I just felt that you were basically telling me and dublin that we know nothing about RV and the situation. That is total garbage! We are both proud alumni, and just want what is best for the school and students. Dublin mentioned the word "pride".
