Wheelersburg 2023
Re: Wheelersburg 2023
Maybe one day Ironton can rival Wheelersburg, with all their corporate headquarters and strong manufacturing industry. Instead, we just have to recruit 16 year olds to our sad little town.
Re: Wheelersburg 2023
Notice I didn’t say Wheelersburg is a booming metropolis either. For that area, it’s the dog with the least fleas.
I once worked with a guy who grew up and went to school on the west side of Dayton. Was one of only two white guys that graduated in his HS class; played football at Bama for Bear Bryant. One day I told him where I was from; mentioned Burg was between Portsmouth and Ironton. His response was: “I’ve been through Ironton. That’s one scary place.”
When a white guy who grew up in west Dayton says that… LOL!!!
Re: Wheelersburg 2023
Ironton was scary back in the day if you wandered into the Sand Bar or the Tug and Hug ( Honorable Mention to the J.A.B.) 🫵
Re: Wheelersburg 2023
Who does burg complain to about only making it outta their region like 3 times in the last 15 years or so?gobucs20 wrote: ↑Fri May 12, 2023 11:04 amIf I were wheelersburg I would certainly complain loudly to the OHSA as to why Ironton is the only team allowed to ",recruit ". I'm sure if wheelerburg were give the same opportunity as Ironton that kids would flock there and also not to mention their Harvard like academics. What parent wouldn't want their kid to be part of that
.
Re: Wheelersburg 2023
A lot of burg kids participating in football this year. Good numbers.
They should be more balanced on offense this year.

Re: Wheelersburg 2023
Honestly I thought they’d be a little down this year but they’re picking back up. Kids growing up in the community still grinding
Re: Wheelersburg 2023
How are weightroom numbers as far as strength of team? I did see impressive video few weeks ago of Estep reppping some weight
Re: Wheelersburg 2023
I they are doing well in gains. Im guessing but I think burg might be looking at a power team with the playin action pass
Re: Wheelersburg 2023
Gotcha Qb position gonna be Interesting. The young man has a heck of an arm and is talented but probably gonna have some growing pains only being a sophomore. Fans gonna have to be patient. Lost some key players but also return a lot of players who seen plenty of playing time last year.
Re: Wheelersburg 2023
Yeah. Should be interesting. Very tough schedule early on. Should bode well in playoffsTomUnessa wrote: ↑Thu May 18, 2023 12:05 pm Gotcha Qb position gonna be Interesting. Re: Wheelersburg 2023
We will see how this Pendleton vs Woodward era goes
Re: Wheelersburg 2023
So far, Pendleton is 3-2 in the past five years. However, outside of his first year, the other four have been below average years for Burg; they are 1-3 against Jackson in that same time frame and have only won 3 SOC titles as well. QB play has been the big negative for Burg over these years; except for Salyers.
Good news is that the starting QB this year has potential and is a good fit for the Burg O (can run and throw). Bad news is that he’s only a sophomore so will definitely be some ups and downs.
Will be fun to see how this plays out.

Flip teams and Woodwards staff is 5-0 with a state titleRBH23 wrote: ↑Fri May 19, 2023 7:50 amSo far, Pendleton is 3-2 in the past five years. 1-15 Pendleton broke Wheelersburg Football RIP
Re: Wheelersburg 2023
Ugly? Because they haven’t won another? If not picking up another title since then is ugly, what does that say about Ironton that hasn’t won since 1989?RBH23 wrote: ↑Fri May 19, 2023 7:50 am [quote=BigSpoon post_id=2066135 time=1684484056 user_id=19111]

Should be 4-2 if it weren’t for Covid. The 2020 season they didn’t play but I can assure who would have won that game. If you take away the 6 Turnover debacle in Portsmouth. It’s really lopsided.

If “ifs and buts were candy and nuts…”.
His record stands at 3-2 despite him having some of the best talent Ironton has ever had (possibly most talented teams in history of Ohio D5 football), and Burg having teams that have been below average when compared to historical Burg teams.
Re: Wheelersburg 2023
Are they really that talented. It’s not like they are pulling in 5 stars from Florida. They are getting Southern Ohio kids that have 0 offers when they get to Ironton and then leading them to 3 state championship appearances in 4 years. He’s been to more state championship games in last 4 years than burg has in the schools rich football history. Since Ohio has played football. Schools south of
I 70 and east of 23 to play football only a handful have played in championship games and Ironton is far and away the most accomplished. Facts! #HYGT

Re: Wheelersburg 2023
Yes, they were that talented. Keyes, Carter, and Perkins were considered in the top 35 of all Ohio seniors last year regardless of school size. No other school in Ohio had those numbers; and no other D5 school had any in the top 35.XandOs wrote: ↑Fri May 19, 2023 10:08 am Are they really that talented. With that much talent, it’s criminal that Ironton didn’t win the state in D5. Something was significantly wrong for them to not only lose state but to lose convincingly to a team with less talent.
Btw, Burg is still the last team in SEO to win state. Get back to me when Ironton does that again. Might be a long time…

You’re still not answering my question. You’re dancing around the truth. Where are those kids ranked let’s say Wheelersburg coach has them? Carter didn’t play a snap as a junior?, Perkins had an average season at best as a junior. Keyes didn’t start on either side of ball until junior year and barely rushed for 1,000 yds both years and all three still made it to play major college football. It’s the coaching staff, the program, and past history that do it for Ironton.
I’ll bet that 90% of college coaches can’t tell you where Wheelersburg is but I bet they have heard of Ironton. Ironton is rich in football history all the way to the NFL. I had a coach at Ironton tell me way back when. Ironton is the destination in Southern Ohio for recruiting. Majority of college coaches stop here and then get out and head back to the big cities.
