Also, who is coaching the HS and MS football programs this year.

Someone mentioned coach Scarberry from Northwest might come in and fill the opening. Not sure if this is true or not.

From what I've have heard from someone from Green, they may not even have a school after 2011 because of financial difficulties and the kids will have the choice of going to Wheelersburg or Rock Hill. So Scarberry would probably be better off just staying where he is.

It may just be a rumor, but they told me it looks to be certain to happen if things don't change finacially.

Burg_grad, I have heard that rumor before too. Actually, for several years. Don't really know about the validity of it, I wouldn't think the Scioto Co. BOE would agree to let Scioto Co. tax dollars go to a different county. We'll have to wait and see.
Presently, Dan Mercer is the FB coach and Tommy Boggs is the Jr. High FB coach.
Both do a good job. Just don't have the numbers that most other schools have.
Don't know who the next B-ball coach will be.
Dale Royce and Dave Shoupe are the co-athletic directors at Green and have been for the past year.
As for the Principal, there are many rumors being circulated by ignorant people. Don't believe everything you hear. This thing is hurting the reputations of a LOT of innocent people and I won't add to it. It looks like it's going to get worse before it gets any better.

There was a letter to the editor in the paper about this very same subject. Green schools are losing tons of money because of the industry moving into the area that are all getting tax abatements. Because the state only funds 47% of the Green school district because of all the money brought into the district by Sun Coke and with Sun Coke not paying any taxes to the school, it said that Gren will lose $350,000 a year in taxes that should be paid to the school.

Green should be closed and the kids bussed to Wheelersburg.

Actually some kids would end up at Rock Hill as it would more than likely be closer for some that live the further you go to Ironton. Also some could look to go to Greenup Co.

There was an article in the common about new schools last weekend. Their trying to get the new steel plant to pay for the school if they come, and evidently there is interest. This whole thing is probably a ploy to get the public to pass a levy for the schools.

How could Sun Coke and others not paying taxes hurt the school. They weren't there a few years ago. Seems like there is some to gain, but they didn't loose anything because they never had it.

According to what I've read it hurts the schools because it increases the amount of money brought into the Green school district which means the state then gives less funding to the school. Less funding by the state and no taxes paid by Sun Coke hurts the school in the long run and they will eventually have to make cuts somewhere. The first thing would probably be some of the sports programs, then other extrcurricular activities would be tabled, and then finally teachers would probably be cut. So yes, it does hurt the school.

If thats the way it works then this really needs to be looked into, because the only way you can get big corporations to build is to offer them a deal. One thing it should do over time is increase their enrollment. Green could turn into a small school powerhouse in a few years if they can hang on.
