I heard that this morning. I am not terribly surprised. I know they have had some set backs with getting the track ready to go.

I know that the photo/media day is still being held on the 9th at the stadium. I'm sure everything will be ready for the 22nd. I think the contractors/administrators just want everything to be 100% before they open everything up.

Right now I plan on being there. I think the Sheridan scrimmage is a better guage for the team, but I'm a football junkie, and what else am I gonna do that night?

I know Circleville LOST A LOT of good players from last year.

Their underclassmen are really going to need to step up and play hard this year.

I have a question? Do you play your starters a lot in this game or just enough to get them some work, then play them hard in the next scrimmage? Maybe this should be another topic.

D&C -

In the past, the starter have played about the same amount in both scrimmages. But remember, a lot of times coaches are still working on determining the final line-ups during the scrimmages, so there will be a fair amount of rotating among the first unit.

The format for both scrimmages has been the same the last 5-6 years. Each team will get to run a 10-play set twice. Basically, each team gets the ball on it's 20, and gets to run 10 straight plays, even if they score or don't get 10 yards in 4 downs.

After each team does the 10 plays, they will then go down an distance for roughly a quarter and a half to 2 quarters. After that, the teams will do mass subs and everyone else will get to play. It seems like EVERYONE gets to play in the scrimmages, but it is hard to tell b/c Logan does not where numbers.

I usually leave once the 2nd teams has run through some stuff. I can't tell who people are at that point, but it's nice that a lot of people get work in.

It's important to remember that in the mind's of coaches, it's just a practice. There will be certain positions/plays they will want to work out. So many times people get caught up in "Who Won" a scrimmage. I've seen coaches put their kids in NO WIN situations just to see how the kids react during live play.

Not sure about the defense but I feel the staff knows how the offense will look for the season. Not a lot of churn there. I think the wideouts are the biggest question mark but even there, I think there are some known quantities.

D&C -

Since I'm not around town, I haven't gotten a chance to talk to anyone who's been around practice.

How does this line-up look for the offense:

QB - Angle
RB - Morgan (Mays)
FB - Snider (Neff/Morgan)
WR - Mays
WR - Huntsberger
WR - Adams
WR - Sigler
TE - Neff (Robinson/Hart)
RT - Andy
RG - Schneider
C - Russell
LG - Shirey
LT - Arnold (Thompson/MaGuire)

WHat do you think?

Pretty close. I think Kyle Andy will be on the line somewhere and may shift some of those other starters around depending on how it shakes out. Arnold and Thompson will see some duty with MacGuire mostly on defense. Morgan pretty much at tailback. Snider at FB. Receivers- Mays, Adams, Huntsberger, Sigler depending on the offensive set. Neff should settle at TE.

Sounds about right then.

I love the possibilities in the backfield (Mays can play TB, Morgan played some Fullback the last two years in the power set, etc.) and then there is Zack McDaniel who can probably play at receiver or running back.

There is a lot of depth up front as well. Competition should keep kids playing hard every snap.

I think McDaniel will see time at tailback. Mays can play anywhere on the field. Watch out for the option pass. The main thing is Logan will still be a power team but with the speed they have, the defense will be spread out more so than in the past. You may not see a 1600 yard RB but with Angle also able to run, the load will be spread evenly.

Let me simplify those directions a bit for fans of the purple:

When you come into Circleville on 22 West, turn right at the first traffic light which is Nicholas Drive. There is a Valero gas station at the intersection. Proceed on Nicholas Dr. to the first traffic light which is Clark Drive and make a right and follow Clark back to Circleville HS. The HS sits behind Nicholas Elementary school.
