2 Privates vs 10 Publics in State Finals for 2011

Looks like the Youngtown guy knows a few things
Re: 2 Privates vs 10 Publics in State Finals for 2011
Ten public schools in the state finals. Something fishy must be going on around the state. The publics must be doing a helluva job of recruiting. Maybe the private schools should whine and complain about competitive balance. :122245

It was never the message, instead it was his arrogant delivery!! I suggest he work on communicating effectively. It may save him a heartburn or two!

Can't wait to see what recruiters are fired and who replaces them.

I have never had a problem with the private/public issue, and this just proves why. It won't turn out like this every year, but public schools have proven they can compete and win championships.

this is going to happen every once in a great while. i'll fight this public/private issue till they throw dirt on me.watch and see if the 2 privates don't win. last year the privates won every game they were involved in, except for the game that pitted 2 public schools together.

Re: 2 Privates vs 10 Publics in State Finals for 2011
This isnt as much a private/public debate as it is the haves and the have nots socio economically speaking. On yahoo there was an article about the top small towns to live in and St. Henry was number 3. The median family income was 69,000 dollars. The economic factor cannot be ignored. MAC schools are blessed with an area where homes are not broken as much and the economy is solid. In Youngstown the privates are rewarded by very bad public schools and being able to stay small.
Every school on that list falls into those two categories.
If you lined up the best 3 or 4 players from every DIII through DVI school kids across the state and southeast ohio kids would hold their own on the football field. Our best would be on the field for most other teams, maybe not all stars, but hold their own.
The difference is the 5-20 players on these teams. DEPTH, that is the difference. In Pike county 3 years ago we had 2 kids, Roback and Southworth who went DI MAC. Several others went on to DIII programs such as Otterbein. You take that talent, put it in the same program over time in DV or DVI and they would have made some noise. However, they played for Waverly DIII and Piketon DIV and were average for around here at best.

Re: 2 Privates vs 10 Publics in State Finals for 2011
Dont think that private vs public debate holds water anymore. The playing field has been leveled by open enrollment. I also know of a couple of kids in my area that have left small private schools to go to larger public schools for more exposure.

D III Game just ended - Youngstown Cardinal Mooney beat Springfield Shawnee 21 - 14. Shawnee mounted a great final drive in the last 2 minutes but just came up a little short. Both my Chicago daughter-in-law and my Centerville nephew are Springfield Shawnee alums [5 or 6 yrs apart] and I was really pulling for Shawnee - it looked like they might just pull it off on their first ever appearance in a Final. However, Mooney prevailed to win their 8th State Championship.
And how about the weather on this December weekend??!! Could you have found a prettier, more perfect day for football games? The prediction is for more of the same tomorrow , but a storm system moving our way [not necessarily affecting Canton/Massillon] on Sunday.

For all of you on Time-Warner - all 6 State Championship games are televised live on channel STO [Sports Time Ohio]
The Div II game [Trotwood - west of Dayton vs Avon - west of Cleveland] is prooving a close, interesting game - Trotwood up 28 - 14 at the half.

Trotwood won tonight 42-28 but even though it's a "public" school, they sure get a lot of new studs in basketball and football yearly, hmmmmm !!!!! (Open enrollment is the only way public schools are even close in number of championships won but if you take the percentages x number of schools it still isn't even close).
