Good win for Gallia on Friday. I think they keep it going next week at Portsmouth.
Haven't big plays (kick and punt returns, etc.) played a role in recent games in this series? Could be a factor, but Gallia should win.

Gallia should win this game, their defense is stingy.

The power running game and a good defensive effort should win this game for GAHS.
Take nothing for granted, prepare for a tough game.

Gallia has played a tough schedule so far, but has also had close games with teams that have poor records such as Chillicothe, and even a loss to Logan. Gallia doesn’t seem to put up a lot of points, but they don’t give hardly any up either. I actually think if Portsmouth can keep away from stupid penalties and turnovers this could be a great game. PHS has speed that could give Blue Devils trouble in the passing game, but more importantly on special teams.
The Blue Devils defense has been incredibly strong so far and really worries me, and I really see us having an incredibly hard time finding any running room against them. Gallia has also shown that they prefer to run the ball, which again has been a problem for Portsmouth. We will see what happens, I really do think that this should turn out to be a good matchup, with each other having different strengths.

Agreed, Briggs did a great job picking up that A Gap blitz we've been struggling with all year!

It made a huge difference in our game and they all looked comfortable with the shift I thought

Portsmouth’s passing attack has been hit or miss all season, because of spotty play on the offensive line. There have been some changes made though and a few young kids have stepped up and will see lots of time the rest of the season, which I believe will allow Mason Jordan and Cody Stapleton the time they need to throw. If we can give the Qbs that time, I think our receivers can cause Gallia some trouble. I’m sure the Blue Devils game plan will be to blitz us like crazy and bring the heat and try to force the QBs into bad throws so that they can benefit from the turnovers that other teams have.

In addition to the youth on the offensive line we have seen more playing time from freshman Darion Robinson with him even getting the start at running back last week. He is a true breakaway treat and gives us added speed, with the speed already present with Zaide Whitley, Wayne Evans, and LJ Adams. In addition to them the last week I noticed we have put Dion McKinley out wide, and ran 4 wide rather than him lining up in his normal TE spot. His 6’6’’ frame will cause major problems for most corners and I have been very impressed with his blocking this past week. ( I know it was against a very bad team, but I saw him have several pancakes in the game) this paired with Darion and Zaide’s speed out of the backfield might give the Trojans their best chance to run the ball. Don’t believe we will have any success up the middle, but if we can get outside I think we might be able to find some running room thanks to Dion’s blocking and Darion’s speed. I also hope to see Johnie Charles back in the lineup this week. Johnie has been injury plagued all season, but when out there has been a great addition.

Defensively we have to be able to slow down Gallia’s running attack. We have played several run heavy teams in Wilmington, West, Burg, and Jackson. Although none have been great performances, it was not our defense that lost us those games, with Jackson being an obvious exception, they were just a far better team. In Wilmington we had I believe 3 second half turnovers that lead to touchdowns do to giving up great field positions. Against West we had some good breaks and it was 13 all at the half, before continued turnovers doomed us in that as well. Against Burg it was more of the same as they got an onside kick to start the 2nd half, and then being down 14-7 we throw a pick 6. Not saying we win any of those games without the turnovers but they are different games without, and we were able to compete in all of them against good teams that like to run the ball. If we can keep from turnovers against Gallia I think we can put ourselves in a position to win this ball game.
