Athens County Rivalries In Full Force! - NY/Athens/Alex

Post by NYBuckeye96 »

So here we are after 4 weeks of football and NY, Athens, and Alexander are a combined 12-0! The three county squads are leading the pack in the TVC OHIO and are building up for some intense matchups in the coming weeks. A preview of what we are about to see.......

Week 6 - Alexander @ Athens
Who in a million years ever thought the Alexander/Athens game would ever one day have league championship implications on the line??? These two schools have only been playing each other for around the past decade, but in many of those seasons, this match-up was one of few hopes each squad had for picking up a rare win. That all changes this year! There will be more riding on the line in this contest than anyone ever could have dreamed, even at the start of this season. The big question remains.....will both teams be able to turn their programs around and have great success in the future or is this a Cinderella season for one or both squads?

Week 7 - Nelsonville-York @ Alexander
Wow, a possible league championship on the line in this contest?!?!? Could it be true??? Alexander has the ultimate monkey on their backs in this contest, as the Spartans have NEVER defeated the Buckeyes. Will this be the year??? Or will the Buckeyes stay true to form and show the Spartans that they are still the kings of the league? Is this the dawning of a true football rivalry? Only time will tell.

Week 8 - Nelsonville-York @ Athens
This rivalry that goes back to the 1920's has never, ever, ever, had league championship implications on the line, but this could be THE YEAR for that! The only thing that could be better would be if this game was in Week 10 with the title on the line. No matter what happens between now and Week 8, there is more riding on this NY/Athens game than has ever existed before! Each school is about to become the others biggest rival. I knew this day would come when Athens was voted into the TVC, but I thought it might be a few more years down the road. NY vs. Athens can now be something that even NY vs. Trimble no longer can be..........the potential to have a league championship on the line. IF both teams are still tied for first in Week 8, can you imagine the intensity of that game? Even if one or the other loses between now and then, there will still most likely be playoff implications on the line, which means it will be an intense rivalry game none the less.

Athens has home field advantage in both big games, NY is on the road in both big games, and Alexander has one home, one away.

The league championship most likely stays in Athens County, but which county squad will take home the title???

Whoda thunk it???

Now I always felt Athens and NY would be right up there but Alex?????? Should be some great games and crowds at these games.

The Athens/Alex game is homecoming. Heard Athens has a parade before the game. Will shut down 682 for the parade at 6:00. Better come early to get a good seat and parking spot.

The Athens/NY game also will bring a huge crowd. Can't wait to see this one.

Gotta love Football Friday Night!!!!
