JJ showed signs of brilliance, but if I recall correctly, he didn't play his senior year due to injury. He appeared to be one of those rare individuals who could have been as good as he wanted; but we'll never know.

Outsider looking in here , The three backs that would start for my all time Ironton team would be .
Hb. Jermon Jackson
hb/fb. Tim Hodges
fb. Dennis Bacon
qb Really doesnt matter with these backs ,just hand the ball off! I would go with Lutz.

I am definitely biased since I played with him, but I think Delandual Conwell is the most under-rated back Ironton has had. I do not see his name mentioned often enough IMHO. I am a huge fan of Brice, as well as many of the others mentioned, but one thing to consider when talking about "best half-backs" is their blocking ability too. Now, I will say their may have been more exciting or explosive backs running the ball, but when it came to lead blocking, I'll take Conwell any day of the week. DC came hard and brought the wood on every play.

I appreciate the kind words from those that have mentioned my name among these players. I remember as a youngster watching Dennis Bacon, Jimmy Smith, etc etc. I always thought they were awesome backs. To be mentioned in the same category as Bacon is a nice compliment.

Another name I think that was left off, and he may not have been "the best" but he was a heck of a Full Back was Micheal Henry, very talented kid.

I can't wait to see the two Sophs as they mature, White and Brown. I have only seen limited amounts of each, but what I have seen tells me they will be mentioned on this list one day too. They both have huge upsides and they should be fun to watch in the next few years.

Thanks again.

I dont see how you can't mention Mike Henry..With him and Harmon in the backfield you didn't know who was getting the ball...

Harmon was a very good running back, but he was much better on the defensive side of the ball. He had a heckuva game against Perkins in the 99 final, making numerous big hits on OSU bound fullback Brandon Schnitker(sp?). He turned into a solid Big Ten Safety at MSU.

I think that in the past 20-25 years, DC and Jermon were the best backs Ironton has had.

How do you get Conwell as underrate? I mean most usually when people say the best backs in Ironton history his name is mentioned along with Brice and jackson.

Just reading through this topic you can see oen reason why Ironton had had the success they have had through the years. Most schools might be able to name 1 or 2 per position, but we are naming 5,6 or 7, and all were great players at Ironton.

Also Jason Cain did not play football, I think you mean his brother Jesse Cain. Lets not forget Mark White and Mike Henry at fullback. Keith was good but #2 is a bit high.

HB-Jermon Jackson (Mike Smith)
HB-Bobby Brice (Jimmy Morris)
FB-Dennis Bacon (Heath Brownstead)
QB-Mark Lutz (Mark Vass) What a coaching tandem these 2 are gonna be!

Wasn't there a short fat kid that played in the 70's named Carter. I think he was the RB for
the 73 team that was State runner-up....

Bruce Carter.

QB: Rick Massey (1972-1973) Size; strength; another running back who threw, too.
FB: Archie Malone (1985-1986). Great nose for tough yardage and the end zone.
FB: John Pemberton (1981-1982). A bruiser. Gave it back when you hit him.
RB: Delandual Conwell (1988-1989). A smooth blend of power and speed. UK scholarship.
RB: Bob Bentley (1968-1969). Underrated but steady. Determined if not fast. Grinder.
RB: Charlie Spencer (1985-1986) Blocker; pass catcher; productive but not flashy player.

Additions or repetition to names missed or already submitted.
