Has the Tide Turned in Southern Ohio Football
Whats going on with some of these records, are the BIG Football Programs in Southern Ohio Down or has the Tide Turned for the the Programs that have not been BIG Football Programs.
Embarrassing
Chillicothe 0 - 3
Logan 0 - 3
Waverly 0 - 3
Athens 0 - 3
Belpre 0 - 3
Vinton Co. 0 - 3
Rock Hill 0 - 3
Chesapeake 0 - 3
Jackson 2 - 1 although both wins from 0-3 teams
Portsmouth 1 - 2
Wheelersburg 1 - 2
Suprisingly Shocking
Sciotoville 2 - 1
Northwest 2 - 1
Unioto 2 - 1
Warren 2 - 1
Programs with the Winning Tradition STILL doing well
Ports. West 3 - 0
Minford 3 - 0
Oak Hill 3 - 0
Gallipolis 3 - 0
Ironton 3 - 0
L. Valley 3 - 0
Marietta 2 - 1
Keeping in mind this is only week 4 and most schools go thru DOWN years every 3 - 4 years , thats just the way it goes , but this year just seems like something has changed, when you have that many Big Programs 0 - 3.
With these kind of records there won't be many teams from Southern Ohio competing in playoff games.
Any one have any thoughts? Coaching , talent , other sports , Grades.

Re: Has the Tide Turned in Southern Ohio Football
Sorry I missed Nelsonville Orange & Brown , I would have put them in the Winning tradition and still doing well @ 2 - 1.
I know you guys are tough year in and year out, with a tough schedule and a good shot at a play off game this year.
Also I had Warren @ 2 - 1 , they are 3 - 0 sorry , its been a long long time since that has happened.
I just cant Believe the amount of Big Football Programs @ 0 - 3.
Its more understandable with the division 4-5-6 teams, but not Division 1-2-3.
Kudos to the small schools keeping the pond stocked.

NOW NOW , DILLIGAF - you would be talking about Wellston would you, because Ironton , the Burg , Oak Hill , Gallipolis Ports. West , just to name a few have all been in the 2nd - 3rd round. That would qualify as competing. :122246
Re: Has the Tide Turned in Southern Ohio Football
Its a new year. Its as simple as that. Should we just cancel the regular season and send the 'usual' teams to the playoffs?

Re: Has the Tide Turned in Southern Ohio Football
Of the embarrasing teams which are football powers? Chillicothie? Would hardly call them a power. Portsmouth? Im a Trojan threw and threw, but honestly a power, not for a while, sure we make some playoff runs but a power does it each and every season. Ill give you Logan and Burg....Logan is in a so called "down cycle" but wait till week ten I bet they will be just fine. Burg, well they just ran into a true power in Ironton, and a team that has a legitimate shot at a deep playoff run in Oak Hill.
speaking of playoff run shots. I really do not believe many teams will want to play West in week 11-12, maybe Bishop Hartley could handle them, but I would love to see West vs Ironton as well.Im hoping West stays healthy because I really want to see how they can do against the states elite, I think they may do quite well.
We are three weeks in, every team will get better, even those that finish 0-10 will be better in the end

1. Burg will probably end around 6-4 to 8-2, which by their standards is an average season (6-4 not so much)
2. East has a decent history, they are usually around .500, and I would say they end somewhere around 3-7 to 5-5, a pretty typical season for them
3. Northwest is 2-1 right now, but even if they do win out in non-conf. they might win 1 league game, if any at all so they could be 2-8 to 5-5
4. Warren seems to have turned it around for a while, this could be a playoff year for them in a down Seoal
5. Unioto is looking better, but with the remaining schedule I don't think they are any better than 5-5
6. As for the remaining schools on the "embrassing list" I think Logan will have a winning season, Belpre, Vinton Co, Rock Hill, Waverly will all probably be down this year
7. Jackson will probably be around 4-6 to 6-4
8. Chesapeake will start winning when ovc play starts
9. Portsmouth will probably end at about 5-5]
Just my take

I agree with that. I wouldnt count Burg out by any means. I also wouldnt doubt if Waverly takes Northwest's seat at the bottom of the SOC II when it is all said and done.
Back in the 90's East had some really good teams when they had the Bradfords, Dempseys, McGraws, Silvia, Boggs, etc. They have just been on a downhill skid ever since Davis left. People can take that for whatever its worth. They did make the playoffs just a few years ago and should have won their home playoff game.
Re: Has the Tide Turned in Southern Ohio Football
The more things change, the more they stay the same. Ironton and Wheelersburg are the premier programs in southeast Ohio in terms of both schols sustaining winning programs for fourty plus years. Other schools rise to prominence on about a five year cycle going back to the late 1960's. Waverly for example was consistently one of the big 3 in the SOC during the 50's and 60's, but went 0 for the 70's and 80's until the arrival of DJ Robinson, and have had only sporadic success since then. Waverly should not be listed in the embarassment column, but rather as having a normal season. The bigger question is how has Ironton and the Burg maintained their tradition of excellence over the decades given dwindling enrollments and an area economy that stays in a permanent recession?
