Those of you who wanted the ring to stay in Ironton, I'm sorry to be bringing it to Chillicothe. However, it is going to a good home to be displayed in my museum/game room. I'm an Ironton grad and my father was instrumental in the careers of many Ironton players, even some on the 79 team. Ironically, my dad was working for Ironton and his first cousin played in that championship game for Akron St Vincent St Marys.

The situation couldn't have any more irony. As it turns out, I'm distantly related to the player who won the ring. I didn't even know he was on that state championship team. So I had relatives on both sides of the ball that day at the Rubber Bowl in Akron.

If you are distantly related to the guy who won that ring, you are also distantly related to me. My grandmother on my mom's side has the same maiden name as your mothers. Wow that could be confusing.
I worked for your dad for 2 years in high school. Awesome time. I worked with some great guys and I have alot of stories relating to those days. He was a cool boss!
He still have those Beetles records?

The player's grandfather and my grandfather (on my mother's side) were first cousins. I'm not sure what relation that makes us.

As for my dad, I think everyone who ever worked for him thought he was great to work for. And those Beetles records you asked about, also in my "museum" with the ancient stereo they played on.

Check your PM's

This is too funny!

If I had known about this before the end of the auction, I would have put in a bid for it.

I was more than happy to return it since it was going back to the player who earned it. I just wasn't going to let it get out of good hands, LOL.

Balfour was the company that made the rings. I lost mine at Vesuvious in 1983 and my then wife had another made for our wedding anniversary in 1990. All she did was call the company and they made another. The ring has the players number and last name on the side of it. So if you really want one for "memorabilia purposes" call the company and have them make you one. I'm glad my wife did in 1990.

Prob should only sell it to a past football player for Ironton. Doing this isn't right what so ever.
