wow, what a physical game against the johnson central golden eagles. they were friggin huge.
and the fighting tigers have plenty of key injuries, with more hurt last night.
i hope we are quick healers , because it certainly doesn't get any easier.
i would liken johnson central to plain city jonathon alder, the last couple of years.
they just line up and smack you in the mouth.
ironton was basically beaten at their own game
smashmouth football
our depth------or lack thereof, really reared it's head friday.
we gotta get some people well.
we gotta stop interior runs, and get running teams off the field
jchs, took lewis completely out of the game by virtually kicking onside kicks everytime.
but it worked
the object is to win games, and improvise.
the eagles did just that

but in ironton's defense. with like 29/30 kids dressed. we played very game ball. it looked like jchs, had an army battalion running out of that blowup helmet.
we never gave up, we played hardnosed football all night.
put this behind you.
no shame in losing to those neanderthals, they were huge.
but we gotta get ready, for perennial powerhouse columbus bishop watterson.
frankly, i love this schedule, and these kinda games.
the programs that don't do this, will not prosper.
this pays dividends down the road.
THIS KINDA SCHEDULING IS WHAT MADE IRONTON FIGHTING TIGER FOOTBALL WHAT IT IS TODAY.
GO TIGERS. WE LOVE YA, AND YA'LL PLAYED YOUR HEARTS OUT FRIDAY.HEAL UP AND GET READY TO GO AT IT AGAIN FRIDAY.IF I'M NOT MISTAKEN , COLUMBIS BISHOP WATTERSON'S NICKNAME IS THE EAGLES AS WELL.

so ironton has dropped to number 2 in our division and region. behind undefeated saint clairsville.
trying to get some watterson information on here, not sure of their enrollment. but they are a catholic school in d3. not sure whether all boy school or not.they are a perennial powerhouse and known for their knockdown drag out wars, with another opponent that fighting tigers fans are very familiar with columbus desales.
more often than not the battle between desales and bishop watterson wins the state title in division 3.

with that said, this should be a dandy ballgame. ironton is used to playing this kinda schedule, and it won't overwhelm them. ironton just missed the cutoff for d5 by 2 players at the latest count. with ohio going to 7 divisions next year. ironton will be well within the guidelines to be d5. but don't look for their scheduling to change any.

Good breakdown of the game "Your Tiger Bait". Wasn't at the game of course but, I feel like I was right there after that description of the game.

You know... the biggest problem with Southern Ohio football is this. To many schools in our regions! You talked about it looked like a battalion running out from their helmet. Look at the geographical areas that our larger schools have vs. our smaller schools. Generally the larger schools in our area have better success than the smaller schools; especially when it comes to the playoffs!

In schools further north than us they usually have one city school and one or two sometimes in the county. Of course areas like Columbus, Cleveland and Cincy have more schools because of enrollments and diversity. They simply don't offer the option of little Johnny going to play elsewhere if he or his parents don't like the staff or his playing time. You simply have to work harder to be bigger, faster and stronger to compete for a starting position. You are also able to establish your junior varsity and freshman teams so that kids get valuable playing time and live reps in game situations.

I know this may seem very hard to believe but, at one time East, my alma mater... had a freshman and jv teams and schedules. That was of course 30 plus years ago and there was still as many schools in our area as there is now! Freshman and sophomores didn't play varsity. Freshman never did and sophomores on a very rare occasion.

Sorry to run along on this post... just saying!

Good post though!

that's what it is for axe, great discussion.
it was a great atmosphere there.
rock music blaring over the speakers,
awesome entrance from the golden eagles, from a smoke filled inflateable helmet.
they came out, and out. i thought it would never end.
fireworks after each touchdown. in my opinion awesome game officiating wise. maybe 3/4 penalties the whole night, they just let 2 heavyweights slug it out. we were down by so much at the half, i thought our goose was cooked, stick a fork in it, we're done. but in typical fighting tiger fashion we roared back after the break, and went up 31-30. but it was just a shootout, and they had bigger horses, and lots of em.

i give the fighting tigers credit, they played till the very end. it was very physical. as physical as i've seen in years---from any squad.but that is what has made fighting tiger football what it is, playing these powerhouse programs.
and the next 3 games, we have
columbus bishop watterson
columbus bishop hartley
oak hill.

so we gonna have to strap em up tight, and hunker down.

Like to see the Tigers healthy come playoff time. They could make a serious run at the regionals. Is Ironton passing the ball more this year?

Ironton will have a very tough time the next two weeks. Both watterson and Hartley are very good.

yes we are passing considerably more. but health is a big issue at this point, we'll come limping into this game. i'll have to ask somebody later in the week, as to how our injuries stack up. but it's not something i'd post here. if the interior of the ironton defensive line can hunker down, and our olinemen can sustain their blocks longer , this is a game the fighting tigers can win. but depth will be an issue for us as we heal up. watterson will probably have 100 players on their squad.
