Wk10 Athens (9-0 5-0) @ Nelsonville-York (7-2 5-0)

Post by Orange and Brown »

The Bucks locked up a playoff spot with a win over Vinton County and Athens Rolled over River Valley. We all know the outcome of this game. Athens is very heavily favored (as they should be) in this one.

This is senior night for the Bucks. Another hard working class of kids will be moving on.

Let's try not to turn this thread into an argument wear people gang up on the Bulldogs. At the end of the day, they are just kids.

GO BUCKS GO

Since 2008, the Title has went to 1 of these Teams...

2008- Nelsonville-York
2009- Nelsonville-York/Athens
2010- Nelsonville-York

I don't think NY has much for the Bulldogs.

Both teams getting ready for week 11 and keeping people healthy is the key here.

Good luck and good health to both teams.

This will be the 35th meeting between the Buckeyes and Bulldogs since consolidation in 1967 and the Buckeyes lead the all-time series 20-14. This contest represents 3 of the rivalry games for the Greyhounds prior to both the NY and Athens consolidations in 1967 --- first, there was the original red and black Athens Bulldogs, which was a SEOAL contest annually. The Greyhounds had only two non-conference rivals, and both of those teams are represented in this game as well ---- The Plains Indians and the Chauncey-Dover Blue Devils. For several decades, the Greyhounds schedule was the SEOAL schools plus The Plains and Chauncey-Dover. All schools consolidated to their existing forms in 1967 which gave us the NY Buckeyes and the green and gold Bulldogs.

Athens is riding a 3 game winning streak in the series. A bit of trivia.........the last time Athens defeated NY without having players who were the sons of OU football coaches was 1990.

NY leads all-time series 20 wins, 14 losses
1967 Athens (H) 32-22
1968 Athens (A) 38-6
1969 Athens (H) 44-8

Athens to much for the younger Buckeyes. If they hold them to 55 or less that would be a positive. Both teams have controlled the TVC Ohio that last several years. The same as Athens and Vinton County have controlled it in Basketball.

In 08, 09, and 10 Adams sheet down his leg when he saw the Buckeyes step on the field. Then the O.U. coaches sons matured and counteracted that phenomenon. Will the down the leg sheeting rear it's ugly head again this year? Probably, but Burrow may be enough to overcome it again since the Bucks are starting so many young frosh and sophs. But next year poopy leg will be back. I can tell you this though. If they try to run it up this week like they have been they may get a surprise. I think the Bucks D will be way too physical for puppies to take a chance leaving the starters in just to try to run the score up. Hopefully the 3 headed monster will keep the ball away and we won't have to worry about the score being ran up. Go Bucks!

The starters will be in the Majority of this game...

As far as Coach Adams,

This was his High School Years...
1986 Athens (A) 12-6 (3 OT)
1987 Athens (H) 7-0
1988 Athens (A) 34-20
1989 Athens (H) 30-12
(4-0) as a Player...

As a Head Coach,
2008 Nelsonville-York (H) 22-14
2009 Nelsonville-York (A) 14-13
2010 Nelsonville-York (H) 28-27
2011 Athens (A) 24-21 (OT)
2012 Athens (H) 42-21
2013 Athens (A) 56-20
(3-3) as a Head Coach...

Those 08-10 Games you refer to were good High School Football Games. Coach Adams didn't score any touchdowns, fumble or throw any interceptions. He also did not miss any of those XP's that NY converted. He had Athens in position to win each of those games. Players didn't execute.

Don't forget that Adams played at Ohio University. He was a talent. The only Buckeyes he ever feared probably were the Ohio State Buckeyes...Sorry Ground Buck...Not Buying it...

Yep, as you said he called the plays. They ran up and down the field, and were in position to win, but he kept calling those danged pass plays... And he kept taking the ball out of the running backs hands... Thankfully for the Bucks he did that. Of course you can go ahead and keep blaming the kids if you want.

Would Athens have been running clocked in the last two regional finals if that rule had been in place?

I'll go with Athens 45, NY 14.

Hope everyone is injury free.
