PVC: Monroe Central (6-3) @ Buckeye Trail (4-5)

Post by surfsider »

Would it surprise anyone that coach Jay's Seminoles are back in the playoffs with another win? Trail won't roll over, but I think MC gets this one.

Who Monroe Central might face in week 11 is big question. Could be Bellaire, Newark Catholic, and neither of those teams are a picnic.

Nice to see Nixon come on strong as a first-year starter at QB for Noles.

From what I'm hearing, this is it for Chief Jay, last regular season game. Don't think it will take too much to motivate the tribe. That said, they win and go to week 11, another meeting for Jay against NC would be poetic justice, especially if they could finally pull off a win against the Green Wave. Anyone with knowledge of the history between Woodsfield and NC knows, there should have been a win for him against them years ago, but the stripes kind of got in the way........ :122246

MC wins big here, and then let the chips fall where they may in week 11. My understanding is that this is it for Coach Schuerman as well, and if so, great career Dink. Your contributions to the program are much appreciated.

Jay and Dink leaving? Wow, but you know they've both made the program what it is today. MC wins this by 40, hopefully a shot at NC and a 'W' or at long last, a clash with Bellaire.

MC easily in this one. Keep everyone healthy for week 11 and start preparing for the likes of NC or Bellaire, whoever it may be.

Not buying that this is it for coach. I would have hoped he would have announced it a long time ago. He deserves a send off in Woodsfield. Former players would come back by the hundreds. If it indeed is (and I've heard this before), I would fear it would be something health related for it to be so sudden. But maybe that's how he always wanted it. He deserves to leave how he wants to

I'd hate to see Coach Schuerman go to. The staff has taken many hits the past 2 years. Basically they would be down to 2 coaches.

And yes the last NC game the old Redskins got screwed... royally

selonmc - I agree. I would have hoped that he would have announced it long ago as well, but, I've heard it from a number of folks close to the program that he's pretty much made his mind up, and he had to talk Dink into coming back this year. I've talked to Dink a number of times about how much longer, and I know he's about done. Again, heard that JC had to talk Dave into coming back this year.

I hope that this is not the end of the road for the two of them, however, credible intelligence is telling me this may very well be it......... :(

Can't image Trail is a challenge. Someone fill me in with the past history between NC and Monroe. Was it one of the 1990s playoff games?
Glad to see Monroe kids don't have to go 9-1 to make the postseason now. Had to really sting many people that they never have much room for error, especially when dealing with a good Magnolia many years. Circosta maybe did his best coaching job this year with the low numbers and changes. I hope he keeps going. Would prefer him to hold the valley record for wins over Reno.

Actually Newark Catholic I THINK beat Bellaire that year. It would have been 1993. The last football game Woodsfield High ever played. We lost 7-3 on a pick 6 in the 4th quarter. We scored 1 TD that was called back because the refs said the quarter had ended. The scoreboard still had time on the clock... I understand the official time is kept on the field but the play wasn't blown dead until the WR caught the ball and was running to the end zone. Then we had another TD called back which I give the benefit of doubt to the refs. It was a swing pass that hit the ground, but it was a backwards lateral. I know this because I have it on tape from old Channel 6 in Woodsfield and their one camera just happened to be at a good angle to see it. It was close, but again it was a late whistle after the runner broke clear. The other games we played them NC was just always better. They had Rob Kelly one year that ran through us.. he later went on to play for the Saints. Today's Newark Catholic isn't like those NC teams.

We never have to go 9-1 to get in the playoffs... it's gotten tighter in the past 4 to 5 years when there was a shift of D4 teams that came down to D5, but we stayed the same. Coldwater, Ursuline, Bellaire, St. Thomas Aquinas are a few teams that have dropped. Also we have always and forever been in Region 19 since its inception in the 80's except the last 2 years we were moved to Region 17. Our 7-3 record gave us more points than the 8th seed in Region 19 last year. 8 wins would have definitely got us in Region 17. Typically 8 wins we are usually safe. Historically 8 wins gets us a home game.

Wow, that is crazy! I would have been pretty furious to watch that even if it wasn't my team in the 1993 game. And I agree, even with NC making a run at Marion Local last year and winning a title a few yrs back, they just don't seem to get the overall talent that dominated D5 football in the 80s and 90s. They were nearly unstoppable for 20 yrs. Wonder if it is just that area. Licking Valley is bouncing back a bit now, but Newark High is terrible. I also did not realize 1993 was Woodsfield's last year, for some reason I thought it was 1991. You guys merged with just Skyview correct? I know people have told me about some of those amazing bball teams at Skyview.

Goodluck to the Noles tonight..I hope this isn't the last game for Coach Circosta and Coach Schuerman. SD, both Coaches and I go back many eon. Not only as coaches, but as teammates and classmates. All great things come to an end sooner or later. Coach C has had a great run at Woodsfield/ Monroe Central. I kinda hoped that Dink, when the time came, would take ove the helm.

From Monroe Central High School site
