That was week 2, Burg played the Brookville Tigers at Spartan Stadium in the first round. They didn't play the Grove until the following year, 1990, at Ironton
I think it was back to back years. I was at both. One at Spartan and one at Tank. Now that I think about it I remember Spartan Burg won and at Tank Grove won
I remember Grove played their second round game at Spartan to win the region after beating Burg at the Tank in 1990. I really believe Burg played Brookville in the opening round of the 89 playoffs. I don trembler them playing CG other than the regular season. We need a pirate fan to verify for sure.
burg's 89 season:

wk 1: burg 7 so point 0
wk 2: burg 26 jackson 13
wk 3: burg 29 coal grove 16
wk 4: burg 27 hillsboro 21
wk 5: burg 21 waverly 8
wk 6: burg 40 valley 0
wk 7: burg 26 minford 0
wk 8: burg 54 northwest 0
wk 9: burg 21 ports west 20
wk 10: burg 30 washington ch 13

playoffs:

burg 20 brookville 14
burg 28 coal grove 26
burg 15 versailles 7
burg 14 warren jfj 7

info via the book cheers & tears: 25 years of the ohio high school football championships 1972-1996

Burg beat Brookville in the first round in 89 20-14 at Spartan stadium. They then beat Coal Grove 22-20 at Spartan stadium as well. QB Matt Miller came in to play defense and stopped CG's two point conversion try. Burg then beat Versailles, who had been a thorn in Burg's side in previous years, 15-7 at Groveport Madison HS. Then they beat Warren JFK 14-7 at Ohio stadium to win the state title.

.....and No, I don't think Green could have beaten either the Burg or Ironton

no it just shows the full schedule for the two teams in the finals but it shows all the scores from each playoff game

Played against Burg West and Green in 89. Wheelersburg was the best if those teams by a mile for sure.
