If we would of had 7 divisions in the 70’s
If we would of had 7 divisions in the 70’s
If we would of had 7 divisions in football in the 70’s how would some of our schools history look. What would a ironton s tradition look like or say my alma mater Kyger creek I think they were somewhere between 96 and 4 or 94 and 6 for decade...
How would we of looked at those teams now. What other teams may had gotten a better tradition if that had been the case. Thought this was a good off season thread

I will agree, but Kygers' record wasn't that good.Eastern beat them 70,71,72 and a couple more in 70s.Kyger was good though. I compare them to Trimble now.Always had a good competitive team.

I complained once about the OHSAA only taking the top four teams to the play-offs.....then had an ol timer immediately fired back with a question asking "how would you have liked to played when they only took the TOP TWO?" I kinda went hush.

That is incorrect. There were three classes and you had to win your region to advance to the playoffs. So only one team per region went to the playoffs in each class. A total of 12 teams made the playoffs when there were three classes. It was that way in 1979 and that did not change until they expanded to 6 divisions.

I would not been surprised in Ironton and Wheelersburg would have one at least 3 more state titles.

I thought kyger creek was a little better then that during the 70's i did not not transfer there until 1980 and it seemed to me like every game we lost the entire time we were there was ---------- school defeats kyger creek for first time in _________ years. I remember we were the first kyger crek team to ever lose to southern and the first one to lose to hannah trace in like 17 years and the stretch was over 10 when north gallia beat us.
My guess is they didnt fair as well in non conference against wahama, alexander and monford and some of the teams we played is the reason i thought record was better but when i researched it today you guys are right they were solid but not overwhelming.

Portsmouth Notre Dame would have had a championship run or two even after Ed Miller left to start the Wheelersburg dynasty.

There's absolutely no doubt in my mind if there'd been 7 divisions you would've seen some state champion or at least finalists from Monroe County (River, Woodsfield, and Beallsville). All had tremendous runs and when the OHSAA kept changing the number of teams from each region to make the playoffs it denied Beallsville (under head coach Ken Newland) a couple times. Newland went on to Minster and won a title.

The bolded statement is not correct, 79Tiger. Here is the correct answer about playoff expansion in Ohio:79Tiger wrote: ↑Thu Dec 21, 2017 8:30 pmThat is incorrect.
