FAC Revisited

Post by Ironman92 »

The league is bad in football it seems.

Records are deceptive and to predict within the league on many games seems impossible. WCH and MT are each 3-2....the opponents they defeated are a combined 2-28. McClain has won 2 games but those teams are D5 and D7 and combined 2-8. Chillicothe’s win against a 1-4 team but their schedule has been challenging. Hillsboro is also 3-2 and the records of their opponents they defeated are 5-10. Jackson is 5-0 and those teams a combined 9-16.

Looking ahead at league play I have no idea. I’m taking my Jackson team at 5-0 but we have to play well @Hillsboro and be ready every other game.

Chillicothe and Hillsboro battle for 2nd and WCH/MT maybe upsetting one of those fighting for 2nd...McClain maybe upsetting one of them.

My prediction going into play

1. Jackson 5-0

2. Chillicothe 3-2...beat Hillsboro at Chilly but lose @WCH

3. Hillsboro 3-2...lose to Jackson, Chilly

4. Washington CH 2-3

5. Miami Trace 2-3

6. McClain 0-5

Very thankful of the easy schedules to rack up some computer points though.

Be interesting if Jackson was in the TVC. VC vs Jackson would be a battle. VC is huge

I think they’d be right in that mix of Chilly and Boro and potentially being upset by MT/WCH

Hillsboro is huge too

I will be surprised if Jackson doesn't win each league game by double digits.

FAC competition won't get Jackson ready for DIII playoff teams.

No league in SEO will. Hartley will kill everyone in the region and then Hartley will lose 50-0 week 14 to Kenston

D5, 6 & 7 ( or old "A" & IV) have competed well into regional finals and beyond over the decades with a few State final trips and championships. Ironton competed for 3 decades in "AA & D3" with a couple titles, 6 runner-ups and other regional trips but they played some bigger schools in league and good teams in their non-conference schedule all thru those years that helped prepare for the playoffs. It can be done.

D5-D7 isn’t very good. Put Burg/Ironton and the MAC in D3 and they would lose by a running clock every year. 97% of all D1 athletes play D4 and up. If you know how recruiting works, that D1 prospect is told to go to a certain school because that school has ties to the D1 college team. This has created the extreme in balance. D3 Akron Hoban basically has a D1 athlete at every position. The D1 schools of the past never had that much talent

Catholic diocese schools are a completely different animal as we all know. It goes in cycles in each part of the state so Hoban just happens to be it now in the Akron/Canton area. Kids & families will go where the other talent is at that time. St. Ed's, Benedictine, Iggy, Mooney, Lake Catholic, Toledo Central Catholic, Alter, LaSalle, Moeller, St. X, DeSales, Hartley and Newark Catholic all know the drill and that's good neighborhood/area talent for all those state titles. The only Catholic high schools left in SEO are Notre Dame and St. Joe (which doesn't field a team now) who are low on school numbers and Fisher in Lancaster who holds their own but are small also as the area populations and economics just can't support it like metro areas. A lot of the city kids in metro areas although not Catholic get vouchers to supplement the tuition fees and costs which relieves most of the burden plus the local school district you live in must provide transportation to and from school.

Which is also one of the reasons Hoban is respected nationally, always in the maxpreps top 25 I
