Not your typical Portsmouth West team this year. Waverly will probably have a good chance to rest some of there walking wounded this game. PW will be back, just not this game or this year.

Waverly cannot and MUST NOT take West lightly. Waverly will be heavily favored but it’s at the Rock and we saw in week 2 what can happen when you look past an opponent. Tigers didn’t have some players in the week 2 game but still should have handled the Pioneers a lot sooner than they did.
A few Tigers will be another week closer to 100% so hopefully they take care of business early to get starters out sooner than later.
West won’t know who or what offense to prepare for which will make it very tough for them. Waverly is a lot more dangerous when Shanks is at the helm as Amanda found out so it will be interesting to see if he will be available.

Waverly’s defense is vastly improved the last two games so hopefully they continue to get better.

Waverly needs to watch out for that letdown coming off a big win against the Aces. Continue to keep getting healthy and take care of business. Waverly takes this one by 4 scores.

Portsmouth West team name used to be Senators. Then I heard them called Siders. Which name is correct? I hadn't seen any posts concerning this game until this evening.

I think the official mascot for Washington Township High School (Portsmouth West) is the Senators. Maybe a West fan can correct me, but the nicknames West Siders or Siders seem to pop up from time to time over the last 30 years when West has fielded strong teams.

As to this years game, Waverly should never take West lightly. 60 plus years of rivalry and the 2017 game result would indicate a closer than expected game. Waverly 31 West 18.

West with only four home games this season and this is home game number two. I'm assuming this will be their Homecoming. They'll will be jacked you can count on it.

Huge challenge for the Waverly not to have a letdown after coming off a huge emotional win over the undefeated and state ranked Aces. I can assure you Waverly has nothing but respect for West football. They've earned it!

Sure would be nice if we could get Zeke back this week.

West is extremely young. They will struggle at times, especially with teams that have speed. You just don’t loose the talent they lost and keep going with a couple small classes. But there are lots of guys getting valuable experience and there looks to be alot of talent moving up from the Jr High. They won't be down long

From the start the official name was the Washington Senators. But as far as I know people living in West Portsmouth or "The West Side" were always called West Siders. I believe somewhere in the 80's they started using the Siders as an unofficial nickname for sports until well in the 90's. I think the school wants to refrain from the Sider use because some people have negative thoughts associated with that nickname.

I believe you 100% correct. I think in mid 80s when West switched to the black helmets they also started using the Siders name more. It's a old school thing mainly.
Yes the people living in the West Portsmouth area are considered by a lot of people to be West Siders.

Today is the final full contact practice before this one kicks off. All is fairly quiet on the Tiger front. Hoping to have Zeke Brown back. He's a force on defense and another nice target for Shanks to throw to.

I have not heard alot about West. I am excited to see the game. I was happy to see the boys last weekend. That was what many e expected from the start of the season.

My son is a 7th grader and said Zeke has been at practice and hitting. I have not talked with any of the boys this week to hear anything from them about injuries. My daughter is my high schooler so I only talked to the boys when they come around.
