my money right now would be on ironton at this point in the season. even with the lone loss being to Ashland. they gift wrapped it by fumbling 5 times. if they played again, I'd say ironton beats them by 21.

to be honest. I know nearly nothing about spring valley other than they are huge. I'd still feel comfortable with ironton playing them though. because we have the horses too.

I think he means year in and out. I feel like Ironton is on there way to getting back there but I’d say spring valley and Burg because each has won and been to state consistently over the last 5-7 years. Then I’d say Ashland and ironton, Ashland barely loses more than a game or two a season anymore and has had ironton a number over that same stretch of time

Cabell Midland beat Spring valley 28-21 on 9/13
Midland lost their starting QB and RB in the 2nd QT to lower leg injuries

Both just returned last week

Midland is 9-0 ranked #2 in WV AAA
Spring Valley is 3rd

Martinsburg which no WV team can stay within 30 is #1

Yeah, for the 2019 season, Cabell Midland and Spring Valley are the superior teams. Ironton, Jackson, Ashland, and late season Wheelersburg would be three thru six in any order. The WV schools simply would have an advantage on quality depth. Ironton under Pendleton may be on the verge of regaining dominance, but may be a year or two from being able to go toe to toe with the Huntington schools. SEOPeeps tend to look down on WV football, but we forget CM and SV would be D1 in Ohio, and numbers have an inherent advantage.

Yeah, hard to compare with the size of those schools. Portsmouth used to play Huntington every year but once we dropped to d4 their mediocre teams started beating us consistently.

West Virginia has done a lot of consolidation over the years. I believe Spring Valley is a combination of the old C-K/Vinson/Buffalo high schools and Midland was Barboursville/Milton high schools back in the day.

Spring valley hammered Ashland 35-0. And lost to Midland 21-28 in second game of season.. the schools are so much bigger and teams are so much deeper than anyone else in the area that they would be a tough task for anybody around. Both of them regularly have upwards of 100 kids on the roster. But imagine the monster if Lawrence or scioto county consolidated into two schools.... not advocating for this but it is the reality in cabell county

I remember DuPont winning the state when randy moss was there and ironton beat them twice. I'd still like to see a game between them and midland or spring valley.
but all I'm interested in this week is ironton's game with wellston.

Depends on what you’re calling Tri State. Cabell Midland, Spring Valley, Parkersburg South, or Parkersburg High would dominate any of the teams in the Region. Too big with too much depth. Ironton and Jackson would be the closest competition. Can’t think of anyone in Ky to give them a game.

Remember when Parkersburg South was number 1 in state and Marietta beat them

What year was that? I was speaking of only this year. Up until this year, PS is coming off some down years.

Yes also Huntington High and Huntington East is now Huntington High.
I believe Midland played at Jackson just a few years ago and won convincingly.
