Time for a big school league south and east of Columbus

Post by Vegeta »

Time for a home for those schools south and east of Columbus that are too small for the OCC but at the same time too large for "MOST" of the other area leagues. I think a set-up like this could work.

Teays Valley (453)
Hamilton Township (344)
Canal Winchester (465)
Logan (450)
Licking Heights (493)
Watkins Memorial (530)
Granville (342)
Zanesville (344)

Thoughts?

Actually, Logan tried to get a league together like this within the past few years. But hey, trolls like you don’t really care about the facts.

They already tried to talk about this, and it never got off the ground. Not happening.

Ridiculous. Jackson makes absolutely no sense in a configuration of these teams from a travel perspective.

LIcking County League schools (which now includes Zanesville) are very happy where they are.

Replace Hamilton with Groveport and the rest are already committed to a new league if they can find dance partners. Still a long way from happening.

With Groveport now seeing more success athletically, might their eagerness to bail out of the OCC be waning?

Logan would join any league. But no one wants them. Logan is too big for SEO and too far away from bigger schools.

Groveport football has been doing great the past two years. This year they beat the DI state champs in the regular season. Don't count on them leaving the OCC. CW has been good in a lot of sports and can compete in the OCC. They have open enrollment and that helps them a lot. Both areas are growing.

Word is the TVC is pushing 3 divisions again. That's good news for Logan. SG has voted yes on this before so we'll support it if it comes up. I know Southern desperately wants 3 and they're pretty much running things now so I'd say it's gonna happen.

The TVC has lost 2 schools so no one is pushing 3 divisions.

3 if you count Federal Hocking. The TVC should send some feelers out to fort Frye and oak hill (possibly warren) to try and keep the overall number around 16 teams. We don’t what to lose too many teams. A unified TVC won’t work with the numbers from the largest Ohio team (Athens) and the smallest Hocking team (Waterford) around a 300 difference. Back in the 80’s, it worked. Today, the number difference is just too big. We have to maintain 2 divisions.

Big news read on another board is that the Central Catholic League is dispanding. Hartley, DeSales and Watterson are looking to join the OCC. OCC thinks they are going to lose Newark to the Licking County League. St Charles and Ready are looking at becoming full members of the Mid State League.

This would probably end Logan's hopes of any league forming that includes them to the north.

Well, the news just keeps getting worse for Logan. Sad if this is true.

What is the reasoning for the Central Catholic League to disband? From the outside, it seems like it is a nice setup in terms of competition and distance, plus the Catholic background of each school.

DeSales, Hartley and Watterson are cream of the crop in the CCL in almost every sports. St Charles school size matches up with the big 3 but competition wise is a step or 2 behind the big 3. Ready besides being a much smaller school is having a hard time to stay with the big 3 competitively. So the big 3 is looking to schedule schools that are more competitive. Therefore from a scheduling stand point looking at the OCC is fit for the big 3. In the OCC it would give you 5 or 6 league games in football and 10-12 other sports. Its would make scheduling so much easier. Also, the big 3 now routinely schedule OCC schools for their Non League games. St Charles and Ready going to Mid State League would help both schools competitively and scheduling wise. St Charles has recently been strong in Soccer and Golf but those sports you can get the teams you need to play on your schedule. Both St Charles and Ready would end up in the Ohio Division and teams they would play are Whitehall, Bexley, Buckeye Valley, Worthington Christian and Columbus Academy- which looks to be a better fit then dealing with the big 3.
