i think regional finals is on the resume
GAHS made the Regional final in 1999.

The list of SE Ohio regional champions is pretty short.

1999 was a great year for the SEOAL. Logan, GA and Jackson were all very strong if my memory serves me correctly. The turnaround reminds me of recent years. The 1998 Blue Devils were very talented but went 2-8 under a new coach and then Coach Saunders came out of retirement and took the 1999 to the regional finals.
The 2001 and 2002 teams also won playoff games. I didn’t follow as closely after 2002 but I know they were in the playoffs most of the 2000’s and I assume won a few more games.
The old SEOAL was a lot tougher than the OVC but enrollment was also higher back then.

The playoffs expanded from 4 to 8 teams in 1999.

Gallipolis made the regional final - beating Jackson in the first round of the playoffs.

Logan lost to Pickerington in a very competitive first round game. Pickerington went on to make the D1 Semi-Final.

In 2000, Logan made the D1 regional final, losing to state champ Upper Arlington.

Gallipolis lost in the first round to Purcell-Marion. Jackson lost to Portsmouth.

Playoff expansion was good for the SEOAL. More teams got a chance to participate and for the most part schools competed well.

Yes the 1998 GA team was full of some talent. Pretty sure Jeremy Payton was under center and Coach Saunders son, Alex, anchoring the defense at LB. after that poor year I’m sure it helped the fact coach Saunders son was on the team. In 1999 was the first year the OHSAA allowed 8teams to make the playoffs. Both GA and Jackson made it that year. The play-off game was played in Jackson. GA survived and advanced.

As far as the old SEOAL. I haven’t been to a school this winter that people didn’t come up to me (of course I’m in Ironmen footballgear😬). That don’t say how bad their school needs to play the old teams of the SEOAL.

Curious to see how this team does. Whether we'll see a new-look offense. Whether we're looking at 7-3 or 10-0. First round blowout or regional final?

I've got my money on 9-1 regular season, finishing 10-2 overall.

Is it odd to not see this team losing more or less than one game?

I don't see them taming the Tigers at the Tank. But I don't think anyone else can beat them, if they're healthy.

Odd as it may sound, I'd almost say floor and ceiling for the regular season is 9-1

Unless WB is much improved from last year, I see GA winning handily.

They should be improved for sure. The QB they had a few years ago was one of the best QB play from a player I have watched. He was a Micheal Vick type player. And produced. However. He was sorely missed a year ago. A few bad breaks in the game and allow WB to hang around. They could pose some
Issues for GA. On paper GA should hand a solid defeat to WB but again that’s why we play the game. And of course I hope the game will get to be played ! 🤞

Won’t be an easy task for anyone to go beat Ironton at home. GA I’m sure is up to the challenge for sure. They have been known to ruin seasons for people in the past.

For a bit I was seeing this year's GA/WB game being played at Mt. Orab. I checked again recently and it shows it as a home game for GA. Any truth to this?
