Consolidation is about to get real

Post by BigBoneJerome »

Ohio just announced 350 mil edu cut. You know its not going to get better.

So what schools are going to consolidate?

Green with Burg first. Green's not even started on there school yet so you know they will be first to go.
Sciotoville with Glenwood.

Who else?

Chillicothe & Unioto

Going to be hard consolidating with classroom size. You’re probably looking at more online education.

Why not? Look at the declining school enrollments. Rock Hill D6? Fairland D6?

I think you are close to what one of the end results of the contagion will be. Everyone may have to abandon the "we have always done it this way" thought process. Never let a crisis go to waste to promote social change.

Dewine is playing politics which is what the whole fiasco is about.
The stimulus bill that the Feds gave has $600 million going to Ohio K-12. Look it up!
He knew how much he could cut to bascially make it a "wash." Dumb people drink the Kool Aid again!
Now, if he keeps dragging his little feet and not open up like he is doing. Then it could be trouble!

Logan is already the only school in Hocking County. It's already the Logan-Hocking School District.

Unless the Hocking County kids who go to N-Y, Berne Union, or Logan Elm get moved into Logan-Hocking somehow why would there be any change?

The funding cut is for two months. Yes - it matters. But no one is making long term decisions based on a short term reality.

This not going to happen. The cut is a small percentage of the total state aid.

You won’t see any consolidation but you will see schools cut a lot of classes

You can’t have traditional consolidation without even newer buildings. What I think
you would see first is district consolidation. Share administration and keep multi high school, middle school and elementary school buildings.

Unioto and Chillicothe are the biggest schools in Ross county I don’t see them consolidating imo I’m sure there would be a way for the smaller Ross county schools but not those 2

Some of the above mentioned consolidating would involve kids being on a school bus for 90 minutes or more given how spread out some of the regions are that people are trying to join together. As someone mentioned you can't have schools that are big enough for that schools current number of kids and then all of a sudden dump another school in there and think it's going to magically fit together. Unioto and Chillicothe together??? LOL where's all those kids going to fit at?? Consolidating might happen in some areas where it's not near as spread out and for schools that can accommodate much larger classes but I'm not sure you'll really see this happening on a wide scale at all.

Totally agree! The state did that several years ago and realized what a huge mistake it was!

Not sure about consolidation as new facilities would have to be built in most situations ($$$$$$$$$$$). But I gotta think a lot of private schools/parochial schools are going to be hard-pressed to keep operating if the economy does not start showing signs of recovery soon. Not many people will to be willing to pay private school tuition if/when online school is coming this fall.*

social distancing and shutting down for two months yet we still have over 85,000 deaths in the US. Yeah, the sky is falling. SMH
