My old school thought process says the proposal for 16 teams per region would likely further water down the quality of the playoff field. Also everyone does not deserve a participation trophy. That said, if the OHSAA and member schools are in fact in financial deficit in their athletic programs, look for 16 teams.

I like 12. No sense in having a 16 play a 1 seed

How in the world did we get from 12 in 2021 to already asking about 16 teams?? I mean we haven't even seen how a 12 team will play out yet.

They don't the top so many teams have a bye week, I believe in the 12 team it was the top 4 that have a bye.

Ohsaa will do whatever makes them the most money. I can see an argument for 12 teams because with strength of schedule some teams miss the playoffs and would be title contenders. You have the buys so it doesn’t hurt and more teams get extra week of practice. I can’t see a reason other than money to go more than 12.

There is one conference in the entire state (MAC) that could have a 6-4,5-5 team that would possibly not have enough computer points to get in the top 8 but yet have a very good team that would beat 95% of the D6,D7 schools in the rest of the state. Should Ohio have expanded to the 12 and possibly even 16 in the future just to appease the one super conference? I say no, should have stopped at 8.

Youngstown Ursuline, cardinal Mooney, Lima central catholic, Newark catholic, d1 and 2 teams in the Cincinnati leagues, lot of the d2 Cleveland area schools. I could keep going if I research it but lot of schools play up and could miss playoffs and still be contenders.

I’m fine with 8 I just think plenty of teams could have valid arguments for 12. Anything past that is just money imo.

Rolltanks, the teams you mention have a lot of control of their schedules except for maybe NC who is in a league that is probably too big for them. The 10 teams in the MAC play a gauntlet that can't be avoided, Ursuline/Mooney/LCC are not in a conf. that top to bottom compares to the MAC. If those schools schedule up too much and can't get in the top 8 its their own mistake.

Maybe so but it is what it is. Ursuline always plays up and any team without a conference has a hard time scheduling. Also works in there benefit too if you go 6-4 or 5-5 and can still get in. When I played we had 4 teams get in and I know how bad it feels to go 10-0 and not get in so 8 is a must. I don’t mind 12 gets top seeds a buy week and home game. I’m good with 8, but if I had to bet ohsaa will get as many teams in as possible. If they want 16 might as well just put everyone in.

Mac is a non issue for me as long as they keep there divisions. What sucks for them is when cold water is a 4 or 5 and then you have contenders in 6 and 7. Now that they have a good 7 and everyone else is 6 the best teams will get in.

Agree with both Bumpy and Rolltanks, schools like Ursuline and NC have trouble getting schools to play them and now even some of the MAC schools are facing same issue. Nobody want to face those schools when they are a higher seed for sure. The 8 team format was probably the best and to me anything beyond that just seems to kind of water it down and not make it quite as special to make it in. Just one person’s opinion.

Leave it at 8 or the first round is going to be sad!! Ohio has the best forum in high school football. Ohio has the schools spread out, if you go more than 8 ur going to have losing records making playoffs. Playoffs are exciting now but they change it going to be boring. OHSAA is just milking the system for more money. I know football makes all the money for the other sports but come on man!! How Ohio has it now you get the best in top 8 but if you look back over the years the little divisions after top 8 are no good plus smaller school will only have 8 that are good enough to make playoffs. D-I, II and III might get ur 10 but that’s it and that’s only because of the change few years back when the cut D-I in half and moved the second half to D-II, D-II to D-III
