Key Losses:
Jonny McClelland (R/DB), Ian Frasure (QB/DB), Brandon Heft (R/DB), Caden McCarty (RB/DB), Cody Carrell (LB), Tyler Kost (OL/DL), Quinn Walsh (OL/LB), Henry Pierce (TE/H-B/DE)

Key Returnees:
Hunter Hill (WR/DB), Brayden Sturgell (QB/R/DB), Justin Mustard (TE/LB), Traten Poling (RB/LB), Carson Hodson (OL/DL), Cayden Alford (OL/DE), Connor Carrier (OL/DL), Isaiah Campbell (OL/DL), Mason Linton (OL/DL), Dalton Brooks (OL/LB/DL), Keiton Arledge (OL/DL)

I think Logan will be a much more "run" focused offense in 2021. They should be experienced up front. Sturgell is most likley to be the quarterback, and brings more athleticism but maybe not the traditional "drop back" Frasure had last year. Poling is a great down field runner and has the speed to run away from people if he gets to the second level. Arledge can really be an anchor up front.

Defensively Logan has to get better, period. The secondary was a mess last season due to a mix of scheme confusion, inexperience, and at times talent. Up front they'll miss Henry Pierce, but if they stay healthy they should have a nice rotation of bodies. Linebacker is a question mark - not a lot of experience back.

Logan might turn the corner this year. The good news is they will be big - lots of size, big numbers of size and have a couple of players. Poling will be a 200 lb power back running behind a big line . Sturgell probably is the QB, but skill level is only average. Key is what O system do they run ? I don’t see Logannas a Spread team this year. As yet, there are no real stars here, so it will be important to keep the O simple, run power and pound on people using their size. They should move the ball. Lots of big linemen and may have some depth where they can keep them fresh in the trenches until they develope with a firm group of starters. Arledge is a really big kid, maybe their best. I hear his feet aren’t good but his experience and size gives him an edge. The JVs won 6 games last year .

The bad news is the D needs a lot of work. LBs are few and the secondary is another question Mark. They will be big in the trenches. The Soph class will be weak , so lm not looking for help there. This unit, more than the O , needs to stay healthy. Little depth here behind the players who will start and the starters are not all stars, no better than average.

Looking at the schedule, they should have a shot at winning 4 games. Depends on how healthy the competition is. Warren, Meigs, Athens and St. Chuck are possible wins. TV may be a toss up. ZHS is a mystery this season. Jackson should be good. FF is played late and how healthy they are after a ball buster schedule will tell their tale. Logan might surprise but I’d be looking at a possible .500 season if they stay healthy , catching others injured and power running the ball down their throats using size and ball control O to squeeze out wins. Tough to win without real star athletes these days, regardless of division.

The coach will be under close scrutiny this year. I still think he is a mistake, but we will see.

Basically The Chiefs will be another mystery this year. Just hoping the program is headed up, and see better days going forward. The weight room rat I hear has them hitting it pretty hard.

Does the Thompson boy play football? Thought he has been playing , but not sure. He also has speed, but not sure on his size.

My comments have generated some messages. Re read my comments. Nowhere did I say they will have a winning season. Just that I see 4 possible wins and maybe, MAYBE if they catch someone with injuries they might get to .500. Otherwise, look to see if the coach gets the athletes out. They will be big, but athletic is a separate question. And I’m not hearing they are real athletic.

Well talk of Logan football Is getting better for sure. A few years back we were talking how in the world could they get players out to field a team to even try to win. Football game.
New Staduim new school. New state of the art Chieftan center. We all said eventually would pay off. Well now. A few years later. Instead of being a total dumpster fire. We are now talking about good numbers out for the team. Good numbers in the weight room. And instead of being a 1-2 win seaosn. We are discussing 4good wins with a break or two come out of this thing possibly .500. To me that’s Logan football coming back around. If things progress again the next 2/3/4 yrs Logan football will be back talking bout 7-3,8-2,9-1 type seasons. I’ll be happy for Logan when they do.

Agree, Paladin. I'm calling it a mystery for now. You just never know. I'd like to see a little better than .500 , but I'm not banking on it. Hopefully they will be better than they have been showing. Have another nephew that's playing this year. Soph last year, heading into his junior year. He says the weight room rat has been working them pretty hard. He's looking bulked up himself, but still young. I haven't heard much other than working hard in the weight room. We will soon see what we have to work with, but it's a mystery, and early, IMO.

Yep, I’ve heard the same thing and maybe from the same source. My comeback is it would be nice to have a full weight room, but Logan’s problem has been they are not getting their athletes out. Let the kids improve themselves in the weight room that want to, but don’t close the door on others who want to play. Some are in other sports, some work and some have another life. Goal #1 is getting people out.

Well its been a minute; but here is some good encouraging news. Spoke to someone with good info over the weekend that said over 80 kids are signed up for off season workouts. As a coach myself; I do know that that means nothing until they strap it up but its a good sign to see that many kids have expressed a desire to be a part of the program. Hopefully those numbers hold as they go through the summer into the fall.

When Jackson hosted Logan the last time. I spoke with some kids that were playing 7/8th at the time and the numbers they told me were out that night was a for sure sign that the interest in Logan football is there again. Couldn’t have said it better numbers mean nothing until they strap it up. But with 80 kids signed up that’s a darn good problem for Logan’s coaching staff to have. Can’t have enough kids. And if there’s 80kids out for Logan football I’m sure that the staff will find some hard nosed Hocking County kids to field a decent team to build off. Logan IS improving.

Logan will be running a wing-t on offense. Poling can be a great fullback in that system and it should utilize Sturgell's skillset. Some good option at halfback/wingback as well.

Arledge will be a terrific anchor on one side of the line.

Defense definitely will need to show a ton of improvement from last season. They were a mess in the back last year.

Alex Thompson?

He played a decent amount last fall as a soph. Can't remember if he lettered, but played some slot on offense and corner on defense. I would probably pencil him in as a starter.

They should beat Jackson this year. I hear they look slow on film.
