If Meigs is taking a knee in the first half it’s a sad sad day for the once proud Belpre program. Happy for Meigs and feel awful for Belpre fans and alumni.

I know several Belpre guys who played there in the late 80’s at the height of the program. They’re disgusted with what it’s turned into. About as far as a program can fall.

Glad some of those guys chose Warren for their kids.

I went to school with several I can think of off the top of my head.

Sounds like a train wreck over there in Belpre. Serious question, how many yards would FF rush for versus Belpre? 500?

Belpre gave up 74 to Athens in 1960
73 points to Ravenswood in 1967

Those are the closest I could find to 81

As many as they wanted and that’s no joke. I wouldn’t be shocked at 600. Warren didn’t play overly well and ran for almost 500 if that gives you some context.

Instead of being a humble first year coach he made it into he was gonna win a state championship in his first year and since he played at Ohio state he thought his team would play like Ohio state. During the game coach bell turned around to the crowd and screamed out his phone number and said if anyone wanted to coach this team to call him. That just screams someone that is in over his head.
Yea I tried calling that number and it didn't work. But if he's reading this stuff I would like to tell him I can out coach him with my eyes closed. I could beat his team with a bunch of jr high players. He couldn't coach tidily winks. It's a shame that the powers that be insisted on hiring this guy when there were other more qualified applicants. I was told Meigs made a bonehead move hiring some NFL player that never coached anything but pee wee ball but I doubt that guy was as bad as Bell. I don't think he even coached pee wee. I'm telling my boys to take their boys to Warren if this guy sticks around.

Would they allow a teacher to behave (and talk to kids) the way he does. Absolutely not!! So was is the superintendent allowing this to continue. Admit you made a mistake and pull the plug. Fed Hock vs. Belpre will be the game of the week

Belpre football was mediocre, at best, the several years before he came in. A second-tier Hocking program playing Warren and Meigs back-to-back to lead off the season is dumb.

They had Rosecrans scheduled instead of Meigs, but Rosecrans canceled on them in April.

And BTW, opening with Warren is better than opening with Fort Frye, which is who the Golden Eagles use to open up with. It was Fort Frye, then Trimble week two for awhile I believe.

Warren, then Rosecrans seems like a much better alternative. lol

You're absolutely correct -- I forgot Rosecrans had Belpre on the schedule. I remember seeing that on BR's schedule, but I completely forgot about it.

In all honesty, Belpre vs Meigs is not a bad game at all and sure as heck was a great replacement on short notice. You take away one of the best players in the area, Coulter Cleland, who knows how close that game could have been. It's very difficult to make schedules, one aspect of an athletic directors job that is not appreciated enough - but in a perfect world Belpre vs Meigs week one every year seems like a good idea. Replace Warren with Meigs, and then go from there.

Going into this game the all time series record between Meigs and Belpre was 19 - 21. They last played in 2009. Meigs had won the last 6 games in the series 2004 - 2009 which was the final year Belpre was in the TVC Ohio. The last time Belpre was TVC Ohio Champion was in 2007 and their only conference loss was to Meigs.

Except for the last 7 meetings it had been a good series that the fans enjoyed. Hopefully, Belpre can somehow right the ship and once again compete and win games vs the Warren, Meigs, FF and Trimbles of the world.

I believe that 2007 championship should have an asterisk. Remember, NY put that one player in the game on a kickoff late in a blowout game and Alexander reported him as being ineligible. Otherwise NY would have been champions and actually earned it on the field. That's part of the reason NY and Alex hated each other for the rest of the Davey era.

No, NY wouldn't have earned it on the field as Belpre defeated NY @ Boston Field that year 10 - 6. Both teams had 1 loss prior to NY game vs Alex so even if that 1 ineligible player had not played, Belpre still won the TVC title because they both would have been 4 - 1 but in head to head matchup, Belpre won the title because of that win vs NY.

If I am not mistaken, Belpre's win over NY that night was the first time that NY tasted defeat on their new field, at least in a TVC game but maybe in any game. I am sure NYBuckeye96 knows that answer.

TVC goes by record not head matchup
