Chillicothe canceled. Not Waverly.
Correct, just heard it was Chillicothe that cancelled.
Don’t blame Waverly.

Chillicothe wouldn’t have stood a chance!! Zach Montavon leading the charge with a line all going close to 300 lbs Jay Gullion at quarterback the likes of Creed Miller and Ben Martin at receivers!! I liked our chances going up against just about anyone in the area with that team!!
I remember your team well. I’m a 2001 grad of Jackson. It was always a battle. Waverly Logan gallia pt pleasant Portsmouth Marietta warren all had some of the best teams ever then. Wellston Minford had some of their best teams at the time .

I remember a burdett or burchit lineman he was a stud and two other 6 5 300# plus they were like trying to move a house. We had battles all the way from pee wee up. I don’t ever remember losing but they gave us all we could handle. We always struggled against a team that could throw our 4-4 defense was not the best at pass defense.

Arguably the greatest teams to come through Chillicothe were the 99-2001 teams. Waverly woulda been destroyed, badly. Multiple D1 athletes on those teams. Illinois, MarshallX2, OU, Buffalo. Probably forgetting a few. There was a reason they never played, until now. Chillicothe is losing gets to the county schools left and right. Enrollment dipping.

No Covid issues for Waverly’s football team. 0 positives or quarantines. Cavs cancel due to fear, just not sure if it’s fear of Covid or an L.

Was Montovan the small running back for Waverly in the early 2000's? It also seems like they had a stud qb in the mid to late 2000's? Walls maybe?

Yes and Yes
Walls graduated in 2008.

Waverly has had their share of stud QB’s.

Would Waverly actually welcome a bye week given their injury situation.? Give their young men a chance to heal up.

Not really. I mean I guess you don’t have to risk more players getting injured. But of all of their injuries, there is only about one that probably would be playing wounded and may just have to manage that injury for the foreseeable future. The rest are done for the year regardless.

But what we would have done to play Waverly!!!

If Waverly beats them that bad it says a lot about the state of the Cavalier Football program.

Go Cavs

Laughable, It says a lot about a program to cancel a game for covid reasons to avoid a loss. then to seek a new opponent immediately. Should be a forfeit! That’s embarrassing.

2006
Week 6
Jackson 42-Chillicothe 15

Week 2
Waverly 28- Jackson 21
Week 11
Waverly 26- Jackson 20

2007
Week 2
Waverly 42(all by half)Jackson 7
Week 6 Chillicothe 21- Jackson 7

CavalierAlum05 wrote: Thu Sep 09, 2021 2:46 pm I don’t mean any disrespect to Waverly. I know they are a great program. They seem to be in it every year. I guess just thinking back we were 5-5 early 2000s and would have beaten the best Waverly team by a few TDS consistently.
I know enrollment is not what it used to be. But just even a few years ago. Branden Mauhgnmer would have hung 50 on Waverly teams. This Cavs team has to be down overall.
You would have beaten bad Waverly teams…you would have lost to good ones. You guys have been nothing special as well. You were good in my day…Chuck Jones, Carl Harris, Shawn Smith, Jemar Harris…but we would have definitely wanted to play you in my day.

His son, Akia Jr, was one hell of a running back as well.

This is unquestionably the dumbest thing to happen in Ohio HS sports this last year-and-a-half. If Waverly's team has no COVID+ and no known exposures, you can just have them come up to Chillicothe and play -- figure something out to do with their fans if the concern is there might be positives/exposures on the Waverly side of the attendance.

It’s more about not losing the game. Everyone knows what it is.
I’d be more embarrassed about being scared to lose rather than playing and losing to a solid Waverly team.
