How many teams off that list didn't make the playoffs that year due to the format back then?

Thanks for the info on all these teams. Seems like Portsmouth Notre Dame had a good season that year, or maybe could've been 1988.

0-3 in the playoffs. I know VC lost to (Canal Fulton) Northwest, who made it to the state semi that year in division 3. I can’t remember who Ny and Wellston lost too but I do know they were defeated in week 11.

Interesting question. They take 16, so I would imagine the top 3 teams in the conference should get in. I’d say 3-4 get in. Maybe to top one/two get home games.

NY lost to Amanda Clearcreek that season. Who went on to lose to St. Henry in the state championship game. Was a great year for the league.

1998 chillicothe cavaliers-
9-1 and only loss was a close game to d1 state runner up upper arlington
Notable athletes from the team
mike gawalek- 3 year starting line backer and captain at Illinios
obadiah harris- preseason usa today 1st team all american- didnt qualify academically for scholly at illinois. Ended up as a 2 year starter at d1 buffalo at DE
Adam Porter- full ride to OU as a qb
Phil Beverly- 3 year starter at mount union as a wr
Nate Eddy- lineman for findlay
Marshal Upshaw- full ride to miami started as a freshman but left program
Brad Bates- ful ride to marshal -scored go ahead td against OSU in the shoe before nugent kicked a 55 yarder to win the game
Seth Maccarter- ful ride track scholarship to OSU
Brady Cunningham- 4 year starting corner at a d3 college

That was the talent on ONE team to bad they didnt get in the playoffs. That d1 team would have been with any d5 ish team in southern ohio history

I would start by ranking by year according to how many state champions and runners up there were. That would be a good place to start.

If we wanted to come up with a formula , I'll compile the stats. Say 50 points for champ, 25 for runner up. Etc. We would probably want to take harbin points into account for at least a bit just to throw a bone to teams who finished high pre 99 when less teams made the playoffs.

I like that idea.
