Portsmouth West football teams

1990 - undefeated season. Beat Ironton in regular season, get them opening week of the playoffs and they get the payback.

2002- went 8-2 with regular season with losses to extremely talented Portsmouth and Coshocton. Seen them both again and playoffs and got redemption. Portsmouth game for the regional championship at Tank stadium in the mud is something I'll never forget. Then beat the monster that they gave us no chance against, Youngstown Ursaline. Never seen a team get hot like they did, and truly belive would have a ring if it wasn't for the best QB in Ohio history at the time, Ben Mauk.

2008- Undefeated SOC Champs, lost to Bishop Ready in the 2nd round. Might have been the most talented West team ever with a young Trevon Pendleton leaving his mark as a sophomore.

2011- Bob Shaeffer serves one year as head coach and has a dominant team. Beat Burg at the last game played on the original grass at Ed Miller and follows with a great win at Nelsonville York. Lost to Bucyrus Wynford as time expired on the goal line in round 2. Would have played Valley for the Regional Championship which I fully belive we could have won. Line was monstrous and athletes surrounded.

And people forget how dominant our softball was at one point. From roughly 86-90 they reached the state championship twice and final 4 twice. From 98 to 2003 they won 6 consecutive regional championships.

87 Senior leage made it to the World Series where they lost to California

Forgot about the 1970 and 1989 teams.

1970 - completely dominant over everyone. Defense gave 5 shut outs, and played Notre Dame for what was called "The Game of the Century" at Spartan stadium. ND won 13-7 in a standing room only crowd.

1989- Lost 21-20 against state champions Wheelersburg and also Waverly I believe. 1989 was a great year for Southern Ohio, Ironton also won it. Shame we didn't have a better playoff system back then, alot of great teams never got a chance to make noise.

The 1964 season for Logan football. Several boys from that team went on to play college sports. Two of them went to major colleges, Wisconsin and Notre Dame.

the 1996 team that went 10-0 was the first time in a LONG time at JHS to go undefeated. Also, the first team in JHS history to ever qualify for the post season. regional runner-ups. Produced the greatest QB (at least top 2), schools all time leading rusher (set SEOAL league single game rushing record) the best lineman to ever come thru JHS and produced the schools all-time leading tackler. numerous goose eggs on the scoreboard at games end with a high number for the ironmen. It truly was living the movie Friday Night Lights before the movie ever came out......
