Wheelersburg’s 3 losses are to teams with a combined W-L of 21-5.

West’s 4 losses are to teams with a combined W-L of 26-7.

Really good scheduling by both schools.

West vs SOC2 so far:

Waverly: L-28-47
Minford: L-21-41
Valley: W-44-14
Oak Hill: W-56-7

Scoring PPG: 32.67
Defense: 23.4

Burg
Minford: W-24-20
Oak Hill-W-45-0
Waverly-W-21-14
Valley-W-30-0

Scoring PPG: 23.78
Defense: 14.89

Defense wins championships.

There were some huge games when Tipton was coaching back in the 70s. Not sure what the post Tipton record is between these 2 schools but both will get after ya.

Tough game for West. Pulling for an upset. West definitely has the talent to win this game and will if burg comes out flat. But if burg is firing on all cylinders they win. Burgs offense is their Achilles. West is a good defensive team and putting it together on offense more offensive firepower than burg. They have a lot of potential. If burg has a few turnovers west is definitely good enough to beat a burg offense that struggles to score. Burgs defense is very good. Seems to me the team that makes less mistakes will win.

For burgs postseason sake I hope they find a good offensive rhythm to go with that defense.

I do like how they have a traveling trophy for this game. I'm not a big fan of the name of it though. The Halloween Bowl isn't super catchy to me. Anyone have any better name ideas just for fun? Its been 10 years since it has came to West Portsmouth.

I like, Battle for the Black W. Have a W as a trophy. Or some sort of hat. I guess a Pirate hat and an ol time Senators hat sort of look alike. Kind of goofy but I love some of the quirky old traveling trophies in the Big 10 like Paul Bunyons Axe and the Illi-Buck. This will be the 73rd meeting, heading close to the 100 mark is pretty cool.

Ehhh I think you may have some “West Side” skewed stats. I’d say the average score is closer to 28-7 in Wheelersburg’s favor. Burg has dominated the last 20 years besides a few “skewed” years.
I use fourseasons.com that uses a calculated spreadsheet. Unless the scores are entered wrong, then those stats are correct. It is not West Side math if the computer is doing it for you. You are welcome to prove me wrong. But your opinion of an average doesn't hold much value unfortunately.

Ehh you are probably right never have been super good at math. Just after the countless number of beatings over the last decade I figured the stats would be more lopsided then that. I’m sure this Friday will help get those averages closer in my favor!

I won't predict a score, but I will pick the Pirates to win the game. I am sure of one thing though, it will be a very physical hard hitting football game. With the playoffs just around the corner, lets hope both teams have an injury free game.

No doubt it’s been lopsided for a decade. Burg is the favorite on Friday. I could be wrong, but I don’t anticipate it being a blowout.

That's bad bad news for burg fans wanting an Ironton rematch. If you can't find a passing game Ironton might beat ya worse than last time.
Nah. He’s the running QB. Didn’t have that element in the first game. Where burg will struggle is in the 3rd and long situations from penalties or mistakes. Burgs offense identity is different. More control clock and field position approach. QB1 hasn’t lost a game yet. But he will have to complete passes to advance in playoffs

Pretty obvious, but if West is gonna win, it will be in a low scoring game. I feel like we are both on the same page on offense. We don't rely on the big play, we grind it out and run the clock. Easier said than done on the Burgs defense though. Penalties and turnovers in the wrong places will be crucial.

Agreed, good game it will be. But Earl Thomas Conley and the boys pull away in the 4th quarter. Too physical.

Glad they're being paid-thank you for your service boys. They'll earn every dollar on Friday escorting the Worst Side parade out of DA BURG

Unless Burg's QB coach is playing QB for West again, I don't see it this year, but who knows. Will def be keeping an eye on the score.
