Ironton beat the SOC champ by a running clock. Portsmouth should be a good test for a half

It’s technically 27 points but who’s counting? Since Pendleton has taken over as head coach, here’s the OVC numbers:

21 Wins
2 Losses

Outscored the OVC opponents, 1,101-246.
PPG-47.86
Points Against Per Game-10.69

Team seems healthy
They figured out Keyes and Wilson are the backs
Perkins and Masters go to wide outs
Duncan Washington Cochran power game
Carpenter looks on point timing wise
yes the opponents were not as tough.
Defense is the backbone. They have been able to play backups on defense which is great experience and rest for the bullies
Portsmouth over rated look at their schedule Roe is still a good qb but I would take Irontons defense against any offense in the tri-state
Fairland is legit there defense is improved

Kind of a crazy statement honestly, if you don't know what Ironton is by now you haven't paid attention this season. They've beat down a 5-3 Burg team, squeaked out a win against a 6-2 Jackson team, Beat a 6-1 Fairland team in OT, and took on a 5-2 DI Moeller team, I mean seriously man if you don't know what Ironton is made of after all of that you've been living under a rock.

What you meant to say was we'll see what Portsmouth is made out of in this one, last 2 seasons Ironton has beaten Portsmouth 50-9 and 48-7 it's this years Portsmouth that we'll see what they truly are made of going up against Ironton. The resume for Ironton speaks for itself, resume for the Trojans played great against 2 really good teams but fell short and have 1 win against an opponent with a winning record very average at that in Coal Grove. This game is HUGE for the Trojans, could be the difference in hosting or traveling week 11.

I agree goose, but even with a 40-6 loss the Burg fans believe the Tigers didn't beat them, they gave the game away. I am suprised they haven't started posting the Tigers don't want to play them again, like they do this time of the season.

The OVC is terrible. Hard to gauge anything.

Lol. The OVC is NOT terrible, the OVC has a problem: they are 2 tiered without the number of teams needed to be so. Ironton beats any other team in south eastern Ohio, Fairland beats the majority and plays with any other team in south eastern Ohio, Portsmouth plays with any other team in south eastern Ohio... pretty darn strong.

The other, well, they’re not that good obviously, the OVC needs to try to lure Jackson into the league and then needs to try to get another small school in, say a Symmes Valley, Green, South ... whoever. Then you you have a true two tiered OVC with 10 teams. Have an OVC 1 and OVC 2, just like the SOC. After you’re first expansion you can reevaluate to see if one more expansion is needed/justified

Ironton
Gallia
Portsmouth
Fairland
Jackson (equivalent)

Coal Grove
Chesapeake
South Point
Rock Hill
Symmes Valley (equivalent)

You can have one week each season where the two divisions play someone fro the other and you can now also fill a robust out of conference schedule.....

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again. Unless another OVC school can build up their program and can consistently compete with and defeat Ironton, it’s their conference to lose. Fairland has made some strides in the right direction. Portsmouth is getting close. Two heartbreaking loses and Portsmouth is 8-0 and probably sitting close to the top of region 19. I would love nothing more than to see the league be competitive from top to bottom. On a different note, week 10 ought to be a good game.

Talks of Ironton leaving the ovc.
Openly obvious tension displayed

And now, for the 2nd season in a row, Coal Grove middle has canceled a conf game with Ironton mid ( non covid related) only to schedule a different team.

Last season russell. This season rock hill.

No explanation given.

Is the Ironton/OVC relationship coming to an end? Is the Ironton/ovc split inevitable?
I'm curious that post says JV game which isn't Jr High or are you saying both the JR high and JV canceled on Ironton??

Is this about JV or JH?

It seems like the post is about two different things.

They will probably have to go independent if they leave. SOC wouldn't take them in , I don't see Athens voting them into the TVC, SVC is a terrible fit travel and competition wise. Their only hope would be the FAC which would only be a marginal step up, add a terrible travel schedule and is barely stable.

Would ironton be dominant if they were just playing ironton kids right now? No transfers in.

They would probably still win the majority but it wouldn’t be like it has been.

I’ll admit, the ovc is really weak in football but Hopefully Portsmouth, Gallia, and fairland can give more resistance. Because ironton is just like everyone else in the other sports. Why force those teams to not be able to schedule local?
