2022 Portsmouth Trojans

Post by SciotoCfootball »

Loooong ways to go but thoughts?

Really like the direction Coach Kalb and his staff have been taking the football program. That defensive turn around was impressive regardless of what some may say. Seems like the teams/staffs below HS are taking things more serious as well. Future is looking bright compared to some years in the past decade or so.. hopefully more & more students come out to play and more fans fill the stands. Losing a lot of star power and impact players heading into next season but also return a decent bit:

QB- Duncan
RB- Hammond
WR- Duncan
WR- Pendleton (1st team SEO)
WR- Lattimore
OL- Harmon
OL- Poxes

DL- Truett (1st team SEO)
LB- Hammond
LB- Pendleton
LB- Livingston
DB- Lattimore

Something in the Trojans favor.. their home games are against what should be their toughest competiton. West, Gallia, Fairland, and Ironton all at home.

The. Pirates need to be back on the schedule. It seems the Trojans have landed a decent coach and things are on the upswing

Completely agree was just talking to someone about this recently, but it's still a few more years away more than likely. If the Trojans can continue going upward as a program and making the playoffs we will eventually see the series come back. Week 3 like before it was cancelled.. Valley and West to start the season isn't changing and games 4-10 are all OVC. So as of now, Burg would have to be willing to drop Russell. Portsmouth has been playing out of area teams week 3 but im sure they would JUMP at the opportunity to get Burg back on schedule.

Portsmouth was suppose to play wellston before covid at wellston and greenup county after. Deer park was a fill in game so wonder if the greenup county series is going to start up next season. Trojans lose a ton and have some good players coming back. I can see a 7-3 season. I would assume 16 team playoffs are here to stay?

JV and junior high both had very good seasons. Lots of familiar last names coming through the pipeline.

I think a 7-3 season is the most likely.. West, Fairland, and Ironton will be tough. I would assume they will stick with 16 team playoffs for at least another couple years. As far as familiar names I know there's a Parker kid ready to tote the rock for the Trojans before long.. we all know how that usually goes 😏

Oh yeah. Portsmouth going back to the run game in 2 years lol. The Parker kid I’m hearing will be better than his brother. I watched some film on him and he’s really fast. Trojans go spread offense 1 more year and it’s back to seeing a #1 in the backfield.

Would love to see them run a FB and TE w/ two WRs out wide when he starts running the ball. Give him extra blockers and could keep WRs fresh by rotating since you only have two on the field at a time.. fresh legs for deep shots after the run game opens the pass up.

Wonder if Kenny Sanderlin will come out for football his senior year? He & Duncan will both be seniors. I think Sanderlin Is the better QB between the 2. He may not even come out, focus on basketball. Also anyone heard about a kid from Notre Dame transferring into Portsmouth?

Would love to see that week 3 slot filled with either Waverly or The Burg.. it just makes sense.

Give the kid a break he’s in the 7th grade

He’s a good player. He’s fast, but it’s unfair to compare him to his brother.

That'd be good, looks like Burg would be the best shot Waverly and Unioto have been playing in week 3 for a few years now. Week 3 for Burg seems to have a different opponent each year when looking back at their schedule over the years. Ever since Burg and the Trojans ended series.

Portsmouth should be playing Wheelersburg. They had no reason to stop other than ducking losses.

Portsmouth had a good season. But one season isn’t a program. This year they had a lot of talent and 3 year starters. We’ll see if they can overcome those losses to graduation and stay competitive or fall back.

I’d say they are looking at solid year. 5-5 to 7-3 with losses to West, Fairland, and Ironton. Potential losses to Week 3, GAHS, CG,

If Trojans could get either team on the schedule that would give them 3 SOCII teams on their schedule, which is half.. rest OVC.

What ever happened to his brother? Did he end up playing college ball somewhere?

Since making the switch to the OVC in 2015, Portsmouth is 39-34, including the playoffs. A huge improvement for them. In the conference, they have been 25-17. Portsmouth also won their first playoff game since 2002 this year.

Here’s their playoff losses since 2015:
2018: L, Madison 26-0 who went 12-1
2019: L, Ridgewood 56-21 who went 12-1
2020: L, Northwest 21-20 who went 6-3
2021: L, Ironton 17-6 who went 11-2

Portsmouth is 597-500-42 all time and should get win #600 this next season. To me, their biggest wins in their history are these wins:

1904; Marshall College: 6-0
1938; Cincinnati Elder: 34-0
1966; Cincinnati LaSalle: 39-14
1984; Ironton: 19-10, stopped their 57 game unbeaten streak
2000; Chaminade Julienne: 31-24 for a Regional Championship

Waverly may want to look at that…
