Say what you want about the coaching change. The Ironton losses got Penrod fired. In last 3 years they got beat 150-7. If you remove the Ironton game off the schedule Gallia wins conf. Championships in 2019 and 2020 and he’s looked at like the savior. Everyone in the OVC is going to struggle beating Ironton going forward. I think Gallia messed up by getting rid of a good coach who brought much success to the program. I see this program going backwards in very near future and falling to middle of the road OVC consistently. Very Bad decision by everyone involved.

Great hire by the administration. Program was stagnant, no enthusiasm with the staff or players, not to mention some of the most undisciplined teams we have had in awhile . Nothing was being done to develop past and current players for the next level. There is actually excitement among the current players and also interest from kids from other schools to come and play for Coach Carter.

Carter was part of the coaching staff the last two years so isn't he somewhat to blame for those issues you are bringing up? Shouldn't they have looked outside the current group if they were looking for a change in direction?

The man’s record speaks for itself. He did a hell of a job. Not to mention doing this while his wife battled cancer. As far as enthusiasm on the staff/kids, it’s hard to keep a staff and kids motivated when you have someone undermining your every move because they want your job. Especially someone with the political connections to make it happen. His family has their hand in three different districts. And no one is going to buy the BS that his resume was just so impressive. Two years coaching? That’s discouraging as hell. Constant stirring if the pot keeps everyone on edge. Two years ago, after a 9-1 season, rumors were rampant of maneuvering going on behind the scenes. Apparently they were accurate. It’s pathetic and would be embarrassing to anyone with a sense of honor. Just like the South Gallia job, the Network comes thru again. The son-in-law of a “high up” at Central office gets the job with a very, very very slim resume and we are supposed to look the other way and pretend not to notice. It’s mere coincidence that his father in law and other family work in the district. But in both cases, they felt these boys “were just the right man for the job”! Nothing will change but let’s at least not pretend it’s something other than what it is. They do it because they can! Parents won’t even take a stand on the immorality if it anymore. Most of them would look the other way of a school hired Satan as head coach and Jerry Sandusky as D coordinator if they thought it would mean their little Billy gets more touches. The ones who do care will mostly remain silent. The sad thing is, this crap isn’t even subtle anymore. It just a B slap in the face and you are supposed to like it…and NEVER call them on it! Pathetic.

Penrod to Bloom Carroll seems like the perfect fit. I’m sure he’d love to be in the same region as Gallia at the far superior school

Win the OVC a couple times. Few deep playoff runs.
Then give the program a shot in the arm with the building of a new Staduim.

Gallipolis has a lot of really good people but also a lot of people that are hard to please when it comes to football. There’s many people willing to pour their own money into a new football field and yet they still play at a stadium that floods almost every season. I’m just saying that if I had to choose between malaria/West Nile or a new stadium, I’m taking the new stadium.

Carter may do fine. He may not. At least give him a chance. You had a guy before Penrod who went 6-24 in three years. Carter may want to be there for the long haul. Many people today are too quick to jump to conclusions.

Care to expand on this? Who has political connections in the city school district and what are those connections? What family has their hand in three different districts? A son in law of a high up at the central office? Hey, if you're going to throw these accusations out there don't beat around the bush about it.

It’s not jumping to conclusions to state what is blatantly obvious. A highly successful coach who had revitalized a struggling program is forced out after ONE mediocre, disappointing season. Not even a losing season! This winning coach is forced out and the job isn’t even posted and apparently, no attempts made to assemble a field of qualified applicants from which to judge and choose a replacement. So, one of the most winning programs in southeastern Ohio, one so accustomed to success they lose all confidence in a highly experienced and successful coach, yet they then turn this program over to a young assistant with hardly any coaching experience? I seriously don’t think it’s jumping to conclusions to say that something is wrong with this picture.

Carter was a tremendous player at GA and was good enough to play at the collegiate level. That is an accomplishment few achieve and he should be proud of that. That doesn’t fill in the blanks of qualifications on a two year coaching career. Especially for a program like GA. I’m sure he will be a very effective coach as he gains experience. But it isn’t jumping to conclusions to ask how this young man can earn this coveted position with almost no career experience? Apparently, he is so qualified that it warranted not only pushing out a darn good coach, but they also felt no need to interview any other applicant?

What should be asked and answered is this:
1)Why was a highly successful coach pushed out when his performance and record did not merit such a drastic move?

2) Why was the job not posted and a field of applicants assembled and interviewed?

3) What was the rationale that led to the hiring of a very inexperienced coach to lead this program?

These are reasonable and fair questions and should pose no problems if the answers justify the choices made. This is not a normal way to keep a program running smoothly. Decisions made like this need to be transparent for many reasons, like the reputation of the former coach, the future reputation and confidence in the new coach, and the fact that this is a PUBLIC school not a private or family business. Well, isn’t supposed to be anyway. But it is Gallia County. A place where family reunions and district staff meetings can be virtually indistinguishable.

If that's true, you let the man resign and get the respect due to him. Was he non-renewed, or did he resign?
I know what I've read hear, just asking if someone knows for a fact. This is a very interesting thread.
