Carrico gets a mention from DC Jim Knowles as OSU opens spring practice:

"Knowles says the Buckeyes are trying Reid Carrico out at different positions. "We definitely want him to make a push on special teams, we're hoping he shows up."

Doesn't sound real great to be honest, never good when your DC is saying we're trying him out at different positions, AKA we haven't found the right spot yet and hyping up the special teams. Curious with the success Stover had making the switch does anyone think Reid could make a switch to TE?

During the early off season there was talk of trying out Carrico as a special situation fullback on offense. We all want to see Carrico do SEO proud, but getting his education is job one, football is a means to an end for him.

I think he would make a good Tight End or even RB/FB, he can definitely catch the ball.

Nothing wrong with special teams.

He’s listed at 6’2 230, good FB size with good speed and can catch the ball. I believe he’s still working on his Engineering degree which will benefit him in the long run.

There is no doubt he could play TE! Good Luck and work hard.

REID CARRICO
  • On Laurinaitis: “I think it's a huge advantage for us in our room, to have a guy like that to be around and talk the game with you.” As a native Ohioan, Carrico said he grew up watching Ohio State linebackers Laurinaitis, A.J. Hawk, Anthony Schlegel and Bobby Carpenter.
  • Carrico said he has lined up mostly at Will linebacker in Ohio State’s first two practices of the spring but wants to show that he can play all three linebacker positions (Mike, Will and Sam).
  • Carrico said he hasn’t given any thought to transferring even though he’s played only sparingly in his first two years at Ohio State. “I take pride in being a great teammate who's 100% all in.”

Bingo. He knows football is job #2 and job #1 is the academics, its a means to an end. A lot of bright student athletes leave college empty handed because their thinking is in reverse.

Not sure about strictly at TE but he could definitely be that hybrid FB/TE like Mitch Rossi. Rossi is listed at 6’1 245. Carrico 6’2 230. Maybe put on another 10/12 pounds of muscle (not even a must tbh) and he fits the position well. We seen him run and catch in high school, definitely something to consider.

The academics are number one of course. But what no one ever mentions is if he transfer to another school he will be on a full scholarship. And what school doesn't have an engineering program. Hope it works out at ohio state but Knowles didnt exactly give him a rousing endorsement.

OSU is a really good school, but you are correct. Many other schools also offer engineering.

Really comes down to what he wants. Does he love OSU enough to give up the chance to play in order to be a grad from that school, or does he want some actual playing time and a better chance of playing football at the next level? If he moves to a MAC school, he most certainly would get on the field.

Keep in mind, Burrow was in this same situation. He transferred, and things worked out nicely for him.

Just heard on Buckeye Morning 5 rumblings of Reid moving to Fullback.

Another place that I've seen that discussed.

Injury to both Steele Chambers and Tommy Eichenberg has given Reid Carrico a shot at second team LB reps during spring practice, and the Ironton product appears to be taking advantage of the opportunity.

From an Eleven Warriors article:

"Another standout at linebacker on Friday was redshirt sophomore Reid Carrico, who saw extended work with the second-team defense at Will linebacker with Hicks repping with the ones. Carrico’s name may have been called out for making plays by practice emcee Austin Edwards more than any other Buckeye during the portion of practice that was open to the media, in which Carrico made multiple pass breakups and was also quick to the ball as a run defender and blitzer."

AgReed!

I’ve been shouting to use him on some special plays for some time now.
We know he likes to HIT on D.
Now it is time to FIT.

Run
Catch.

He got 46 snaps plus some on special teams in the spring game. Which was third most with the linebackers. But the two starters didn't play.

He seems like a great young man. He has the speed, acceleration, and size to play. Really he just doesn’t look like a real instinctive player.

Starting MLB for WVU!

Defensive Coordinator- JORDAN LESLEY: “Reid Carrico’s a guy that I’ve been really, really impressed with. Not only how he works, but how he understands the position of linebacker. Through the drills and stuff we’ve done in the winter phase, is a skill set that I think can really, really help us. … He is much-need help there and has done a good job.”
